An accident. Yes, that's what she was. A wonderful, beautiful accident of the magical sort. A guardian brought to life through magic, and the lava and rock around her, even some metal had been caught in the magical field when Dallan had cast the spell, the grating betraying the fact that she was, in essence, a living forge. A role she took to quite readily. She created beautiful weapons and armor not only for herself, but the rest of the clan and others.

She’s more than the clan’s weapon maker, however, and often finds herself drawn to the hatchlings and nests, helping to tend the eggs, or entertain hatchlings, even sleeping with them on cold nights to provide warmth. Though the clan was nervous about this walking lava pool being around them at first, it soon became apparent that anyone who risked harming them would be subject to Lume’s anger, and therefore molten metal being spat at their persons.

A dragon brought forth from the Kiln Maw of the annex, no one is quite sure how Lume came about, but all are glad she exists. Her first few days of life were rocky, her body unstable and prone to melting whatever metal it came in contact with. It took the ship’s wizards several days to cool and stabilize her, so that she could roam the ship freely without harming anyone or anything. It was soon after that they discovered her talent for making and repairing weapons and armor of all sorts, and even some of the more robotic residents of the Annex.

More than that, though, When not concentrated on a repair or some new project, she stands guard over the very young and the sick, abandoning everything should the ship find itself under fire and ushering them into a safe room, daring anyone to come in. When in these situations, the lava across her body glows bright, and she has a propensity to spit molten metal at any intruders. In the very beginning, this saved those in her care from being taken or killed, and no one envied those dragons she eliminated.
