Lore

Aries is the Glass Shatter matriarch. She has the final say in any matter and controls the clan as the head of The Crown. Though she seeks the advice of her Council, and delegates day-to-day tasks to other members of the clan, Aries is ultimately in charge.

You will often find Aries monitoring the clan subgroups with Taran, her second in command, by her side. Though her subjects are capable of running the clan without her supervision, she will always watch over them with a suspicious eye.

---

Aries is a ruthless matriarch that rules her clan with an iron fist. She is quick to distrust anyone and will only allow members into her clan that she feels can contribute and benefit her. Fear tactics and intimidation are her preferred methods of controlling her clan, but she can also be very passive aggressive in doling out punishments. Her greed and temper often control her actions, but for as impulsive as she can be, she is also cunning and knows how manipulate others for her own interests.

She doesn't care about her subjects flight allegiance, all that matters is their allegiance to her. She exalts dragons from her clan not out of loyalty to her deity, but with selfish motives. In fact, in the early days of the Glass Shatter, sacrifices were made to Shadowbinder. Now exalt offerings are sent to the Icewarden. (rumor has it she's considering a move to the Earth region...) Exaltations occur at a rapid rate within her clan for profit and dominance. Though she cares for her mate, Falkor, her bond to him is one of mutual respect, not love. Love? She's incapable of it.

---

The Beginning
Aries never knew her original clan. In fact, she's not even sure she was ever a part of one. She could have been abandoned by her parents, left to fend for herself before she could even open her eyes, or perhaps she was a manifestation of the lingering dark magic that mingles in the mists of the Tangled Wood. The only thing she knew for sure, was she was alone and she had to survive.

Lurking among the shadows, Aries watched rival clans fighting to the death. She didn't know why they were fighting, but she knew it was a necessity. She was such a small hatchling, smaller than most mirrors her age. She kept herself hidden, hunting measly vermin in the night to survive. As she grew, she became more cunning. She no longer had to settle for what she considered to be "scraps". She hunted hatchlings now.

Survival
It started with eggs. When an unsuspecting mate would venture too far from its nest, Aries would seize the moment and traipse off with one of the eggs. She moved with the mist. She was never spotted. She was one with the shadows. Most importantly, she was removed from empathy. The next day she would see the mourning parents and relive the thrill of the steal in her mind, the richness of their unhatched child's blood on her tongue.

But, the eggs were so small. The shells so tough to break through. The eggs that she left behind became hatchlings, and she started to yearn for their tender flesh. To rip open the soft skin of their bellies and gorge herself on their spilling entrails. So, she did.

A Taste for Blood
The clans of the area knew someone had been snatching their eggs and their guard was up. Each parent violently protected the privacy of their nests, suspecting each other. Little did they know, their eggs were safe now. It was their hatchlings they needed to watch. It was so easy to cut the little hatchies away from their parents. Aries would rustle branches and snarl close to the nest, when the parent would move to investigate, Aries would slip though the underbrush and disappear in the murk. The babies were so easy to manipulate. They could barely see, and when she pressed her warm body against their sides and nudged them maternally, encouraging them to follow, they always did. They didn't know any better. Once she was a safe distance from the nest, she would quickly slit their throats and feast on her kill. It would be dishonest to say she didn't secretly delight in the bellows of the devastated parents searching for their hatchling in the distance.

An Unexpected Turn
It was during one such kill that a male guardian approached her one day. It wasn't just his size, his presence was overwhelming. He was not the cumbersome dragon she assumed he would be as he twisted out of harms way when she lunged to slash his throat. Aries hissed and darted back at his neck. The encroaching dragon was nearly twice her size but dodged her attacks with an unsettling grace. The two seemed to dance for several minutes, Aries would strike and the male would leap softly away. Aries became enraged. She had never had any contact with a dragon before that wasn't her victim and this brute appeared from nowhere and seemed to be toying with her. She stopped abruptly in front of the other dragon. Standing her ground, muscles tense, she stood just inches in front of him. She held her head high and flared her nostrils. Without a word, the guardian lowered his head to meet hers. They took in each others' scent for a few moments before both silently coming to the understanding that they had accepted each other. A mutual respect was formed and the Glass Shatter Clan was born.
