ALL GLASS SHATTER UPDATES
Updates arranged from oldest to newest. See the post above for the most recent update.
11/8/16- A darkness swept over the lair. A sense of dread, unsettling... indecipherable, but real. She couldn't put her finger on it, but Aries could feel it. Something was off, but it wasn't... physically here. She couldn't explain it. Perhaps a disturbance from another dimension? She didn't know what it was, but it put her ill at ease. Her desire to limit the size of her clan was pressing. The lair had grown too large, and this thing... whatever it was... she couldn't protect everyone against it. It was time to make some cuts. To trim the excess of the Glass Shatter. Some dragons would need to be sacrificed. As the uneasiness and a building depression crept in, she knew it was the only way. With determination she swept through her lair. A change needed to be made. It was maddening. The first few she came across were the first to fall victim to her rage.
Here are the dragons that were sent to the Icewarden that day:
Focus, Helheim, Latte, Sumatra, Fletchling
12/30/16- We officially have a lore hub! Lorne (that's me!) will be keeping track of everything going on in the Glass Shatter Clan, including our history and updates. You can find out all you need to know about the Glass Shatter here, though it could really use some sprucing up. We'll add some graphics and such as we go...
1/6/17- Today, Aries discovered that
Striker, one of her hatchery breeders, is the son of Steelspawn.
Steelspawn, a resident of the Fletching Clan, was destined to be exalt fodder for the Glass Shatter back when the clan resided in the shadows. Aries got her chance at retaliation today from the exalt offering that was robbed from her. Toxin, Striker's mate, is left broken hearted. You can read all about it on
Toxin's page.
Out With the Old...
Such an eventful day! Fueled by the destruction that she had caused among The Peaceful subgroup with the exalting of Striker, Aries set out to stir up some waves within The Outliers. She had mixed emotions with the lot of them anyway, they had all professed their loyalty to her but their independence within the clan was unsettling. It was time to make some cuts. Though she wouldn't exalt them, she decided it was time for the Glass Stain breeding pair to leave. She had sent The Swarm, her small pack of mirrors in charge of sales and negotiations, out to find a buyer for the breeding pair. There was no reason behind her decision, other than wanting to disrupt more lives. She watched as the shocked pair was ushered out of the territory by The Swarm, the courier leading the way and nipping at the heels of
Frost and
Envy if they slowed.
In With the New...
Assured that the couple had been successfully escorted to their new lair, Aries sent The Swarm on one last errand for the day. "
Find Baseek a mate," Aries demanded. Baseek, the hatchling surrogate, had expressed no interest in finding a mate. He was content spending his days watching over his charge, the offspring of the hatchery. "
He's too pretty to not have a nest of his own. His offspring will sell.." The Swarm returned with a beautiful, turquoise
bogsneak. She was regal looking and The Swarm had gotten her at a bargain price. Ironically, she came from the same region that The Swarm had just deposited the Glass Stain pair. Baseek instantly disliked her, and she was equally cold toward him. They would have to get used to each other. They didn't have a choice. And when they did... well, only time would tell if she would let them stay together.
1/18/17- Sangria had been slipping in her duties as a hatchling surrogate. Time and time again, Baseek was found alone in the nesting grounds caring for the hatchlings. Baseek cared for Sangria and knew her pain. He understood her depression that was getting worse with each passing day.
When Sangria came to Glass Shatter she had recently been scorned by her mate. He had fallen out of love and selfishly left her to serve the Icewarden. She poured her heart and soul into raising their two daughters that he left her with - Theseus and Riesling. When her girls decided they would rather be with their father and exalted themselves in search of him, Sangria's world came crashing down around her. She vowed to never let herself become attached to another ward again. Leaving her previous clan, she ran into the Glass Shatter lair. She was offered a place to stay as long as she could earn her keep.
She became a hatchling surrogate. At first, raising the hatchlings with Baseek was a welcome distraction from the pain she sought to escape. But, as time wore on, she began to see her daughters in the offspring she tended to. She had to distance herself. Her appearances at the nesting grounds became fewer and far between. Aries would notice soon. Baseek covered for her, but she knew she was putting them both at risk. So one day, she left. She took nothing with her, leaving behind a simple note for Baseek: "I've gone to serve the Icewarden. Thank you for everything, my friend."
(Slate has a new mate that arrived today... more on her later.)
1/20/17- That feeling of dread had returned. This time, though, it was much stronger. It chilled her to the bone and created a sickness in the pit of her stomach. Aries once again felt that something was wrong, though she couldn't put her finger on it. It made her uneasy, as if somewhere there was a great shifting of power taking place. But, where? What power? She was a sinister ruler, she knew that. But this... whatever this feeling was forced her to become concerned for her clan. Protective... sentimental even. She needed to save them. But, from what?
She made her way through the lair, observing each of the subgroups. Her recent spontaneous lair purge had exiled any of the members she had been leery of. The ones she didn't quite trust, or simply didn't like. Her son, Slate, had recently found a mate. She despised the new nocturne. Her first instinct was to cast her out, her nerves were on edge and exalting the newest addition to their clan would certainly help sooth her agitation. But, uncharacteristically for Aries, she didn't want to cause strife today. Not with her son. In an abnormal maternal gesture, Aries would allow Slate this happiness. The future was uncertain, but today his mate would be left alone.
After much contemplation, she knew what had to be done. She didn't know what this force was that was making her so uneasy, perhaps it was all in her head, but regardless, she needed to protect her clan. Just days before she had accepted a sage warrior into the Glass Shatter. He was ice born, and had recently found himself without a clan. Returning to his home land, he had been spotted roaming just outside of the Glass Shatter territory. The imperial moved with a calculated grace evidence of his training, it was subtle but Aries could tell he was a fighter before she ever approached him. Sensing no reason to distrust him, she offered him a position in the Glass Shatter as a warrior.
Now, on this unsettling day, she found the imperial preparing for a trip to the coliseum to represent the Glass Shatter. She stopped him, relaying his new task. "You are to take The Swarm with you," she ordered. She told him where he would find the pack of merchants before continuing her instructions, "We need more warriors. You are to find a new trainer, one that can fight the spirits of the Ghostlight Ruins. Rave can't keep up with the training. Locus alone can't protect us all if... something were to happen. I have three warriors now with you, four if you count the healer, but we need more. Go, find our Ghostlight trainer. When you return, you are to oversee Daenerys's training. She's strong, she's clever and she's quick. She'll make an excellent fighter. But, do not allow Slate's new mate to train in the coliseum." It was evident in her glare that Aries would not be justifying her decision to the imperial. Slate was the rightful heir, and though he had no interest in ruling the Glass Shatter, Aries had a suspicion that his mate did. She would not allow her the chance to become more powerful.
The noble imp nodded in acknowledgement. He would carry out this task and return with the best warrior that he could find. As he turned to fetch the merchants Aries spoke, "One last thing. Your name. You stated that your name was Sebastian, but you left it behind when you left your old life. You will now be called Shorn. You have cast away past allegiances. You belong to me. Now, be on your way." With that, Aries left Shorn to began his task of bolstering the army.
2/1/17- Loomis's lore is finally in his bio. Purchased to become an assassin, Loomis has other plans in mind. Taran finds him amidst a blood bath and brings him to meet the matriarch. Read more HERE.
I'll be writing lore for his mate, Brackett, next.
2/8/17- "You. Did. WHAT!?" Aries was trembling with rage. The great imperial cowered before her. "I told you to train her! I trusted you!!" Aries advanced toward him and Shorn stumbled over himself to escape the matriarch's wrath.
"I... I... I've found a water dragon for you. One that can fight in the Ghostlight Ruins for you. He's strong Aries, he's beautiful... and he's strong," Shorn fumbled over his words in his rapid attempt to gain favor back with his matriarch. "He's expensive though, but... but he's perfect for us."
"For us? There is no us anymore! You are no longer welcome in the Glass Shatter," Aries turned quickly to her merchants that flanked the imperial. "Well, the water dragon. Is he worth it?" The mirrors nodded in agreement. He was pricey, but worth it. "Fine. We'll buy him. We'll buy him with the money we get from selling you." She pointed at the imperial. "There are plenty of clans that will pay for a coli fighter. Sell him to the first buyer that shows interest. I don't care where he goes. Get. Him. OUT."
"Aries... please! I..." Shorn began to protest. If she had been angry before, he hadn't seen anything yet. His attempts at pleading with her pushed her over the edge. An unearthly growl escaped her and she sprung from the ground. Her wings cut violently in the air as she hovered just inches from Shorn's face. "You do NOT have a say in this! Don't you DARE attempt to speak with me again! I will cut your tongue out myself if I so much as hear one more word out of your mouth. A silent fighter sells for just as much as one that can talk. YOU are the reason my Daenerys has been exalted to the Lightweaver. You were supposed to train her. You were NEVER permitted to send her to another lair for training. You are the reason that I have to travel to the Sunbeam Ruins to try to get her back. And, Shorn, if you are still here when I return, regardless of whether or not I can bring Daernerys home, I will end your life."
Shorn sat back, unable to move, even after Aries had left the scene. The merchants nodded to him, he knew he had to follow. How could he have been so stupid? How could he have thought that Daenerys would be safe training with another clan? His search for a water dragon had kept him away from the coliseum longer than he had intended, and he had feared that Aries would retaliate when she saw how slow Daenerys's training was coming along. It had seemed like a good solution at the time. He had no way of knowing that she would be training during a massive dom push for the light region, that she would be accidentally exalted with the fodder. He would bring her back himself if he could. He didn't know how Aries expected to do it. Gulping back his tears of shame, he followed the merchants. He had lost his home in the Glass Shatter. It was on to the auction block.
edit: Shorn was sold the following day to a clan in the shadows where his story will continue.
2/10/17- Daenerys was returned. The story of her retrieval will be added shortly.
2/14/17- Azure joins the clan.
2/15/17- Upon opening her eyes, Aries realized that half the day was already gone. She returned home with Daenerys late at night. The resulting exhaustion from the trip had caused her to sleep most of the following day. Feeling much better, at home in her own lair, with her mate by her side and her watch dogs guarding the entrance to her cave, Aries sat back and collected her thoughts.
She had passed through the Tangled Wood on her way home from the Light region after retrieving Daenerys. A shadow dragon herself, Aries could easily sense the true character of a shadow dragon. She had made the trek to the Sunbeam Ruins alone and she needed someone to help her protect Daenerys on her way back. She knew she could find a trustworthy candidate in her home region. With the help of her allies in the shadows, Maldolf and Uhnalia, Aries found a clan with a worthy dragon that they were willing to sell to aid her in her journey. A fierce looking, older wildclaw named Azure. She wouldn't let anything happen to the guardian now that she had finally gotten her back, and Azure was there to make sure of that.
Now, home with Daenerys, she began to assess the newest additions to her lair. The Glass Shatter was growing again. She needed to make some cuts. With a calm demeanor, Aries made her way through the various subgroups, pointing out which dragons would no longer be welcome in the clan. Sativa would be sent as a gift to Maldolf and Uhnalia, for their help with finding Azure. The rest would be exalted.
Here are the dragons that were sent to the Icewarden that day:
Swamp: The mate of Fever. Fever protested, but only slightly. He had never grown attached to her anyway.
Nikita: The assigned mate of Baseek. Baseek didn't even pretend to be distraught, he had hated Nikita from the day she arrived and he despised the thought of nesting with her. Her exaltation was a welcome relief.
Loam: Aries never did like faes. The Sprite subgroup, made up of faes, has always made it a point to stay out of Aries' path. Loam was gathering bits of stemmy foliage from beneath the snow for one of Absinthe's concoctions, when Aries happened to make her way through the subgroup's territory. With a little grin, Aries immediately sent Loam on her way to be exalted.
3/19/17- Rave and Tragedy, the dragons in charge of clan communications, were enjoying a leisurely stroll near the outskirts of the clan's territory when they were approached by a travelling spiral. Rave immediately recognized the crest on the spiral's leg, this was a member of the wind region's Fletching clan.
The following is an excerpt from the alliance invitation written by Fletcher:
A spiral circles above your clan, searching for the safest place to land. You recognize the Fletching crest tattooed on her leg. She touches down in a soft swirl of sweet grass and pulls back her dark hood to glance around. From a pouch at her waist she withdraws a sheet of vellum shimmering with ink written in a fine hand. She clears her throat, smiles pleasantly, then reads,
'Glass Shatter Clan,
In times past you have been of great service to my clan; whether in friendship or in substantial aid you have helped us through troubling times, and the Fletching Clan thanks you for your valuable support. Our clans have been accomplice for some time now, but with the new leadership and strength of our clan we would like to finally extend a formal invitation of alliance.
As allies of the Fletching Clan you would receive all of our gratitude and, of course, friendship, as well as any material benefits you wish from our members; the work of our finest artisans as well as our hunters and fighters will be at your service. In return we would ask only your continued support and, should you wish, the availability of trade from your dragons as well.
Whether our invitation is accepted or not, know that you have our respect.
May the wind carry you always gently.
Amdiffyn Anamae,
Queen of the Fletching Clan.'
The spiral, Sif, leaves the letter with you, alongside a box lined with fine pink paper and filled with several delicate duneberry tarts. Each is sprinkled with candied rose petals. A note at the bottom of the box, nearly illegible, says,
'From
Confetti, Royal Chef!'
Once the spiral was out of sight, Rave turned to her assistant. "
There's no telling how Aries will take this... go find the other Council members. Aries will likely call a meeting, it's best not to let her wait for the Council. I'll go find the matriarch." The clan communicators parted ways. They would be meeting shortly in the Council Chambers, a small clearing in the forest surrounded by jagged rock that shut out the harsh winds of the frost bitten region. This area was reserved for Council meetings alone, off limits to other members of the clan.
Aries sniffed the box of confections cautiously. A snarl curled subtly on her lips.
"
We know the Fletching clan. Our lair has been home to some of their residents in the past. They can be trusted." Rave smiled gently, an attempt to assuage the matriarch's distrust. As Rave continued to speak, her communication assistant, Tragedy, fought the urge to pace nervously. She wasn't used to being in the matriarch's presence and it made her uneasy.
The invitation to become an ally of the Fletching clan had been delivered to Rave. When the news was given to Aries, the matriarch called a meeting of her Council. Now, surrounded by her seven council members, Aries was to make the decision whether or not to form an alliance with the clan from the wind region.
Each dragon in the Council had something to say. It seemed as if they were trying to talk over one another, an attempt to impress their matriarch. The imperials were the first to speak:
Locus, Head Coliseum Fighter: "
They've offered the support of their fighters. We may need trusted reinforcements if there's a push back when we expand our territory..."
Solace, Scholar and Educator: "
No Locus, you're thinking too small! Imagine the literature they possess! The letter seems to be written by a well educated dragon... Amdiffyn? Do you think they have their own library?"
Fever, Hoard Keeper: "
Hmmph. The letter mentioned hunters. I've heard that game is plentiful in the Windswept Plateau. Our clan is growing... we need more rations."
A small tundra was the next to speak:
Eclipse, Head of the Watch Dogs: "
Their territory is north of us, past the limitations of where our scouts can travel in a single night. It would be nice to have an alliance that could keep a watch out in the north..."
A beautiful guardian shook her head:
Monarch, Hatchery Breeder & Matchmaker: "
A clan large enough to need alliances would surely have dragons that could contribute to our own hatchery. There are too many beautiful dragons in the Glass Shatter that are without a mate."
The only member of the Council that had not voiced an opinion was Tragedy. Aries turned to her, "
And what about you? You're the communication assistant. Surely you have something to say?"
Tragedy gulped. She was born in the wind domain. She hated it. She hated every dragon that resided there. She clutched her pearl tightly to her chest, it contained the burden of every painful memory she had from her time in the wind region. Tragedy was there when Sif had delivered the invitation to Rave. Though the beautiful spiral had kind eyes and she sensed no malice from her, she hated the wind dragon all the same. She had an innate distrust of her, despite the positive ramblings of Rave about the Fletching clan as Tragedy followed her to deliver the message to Aries.
Now, here was her matriarch, asking her opinion of an alliance with a wind clan. Tragedy forced a smile. She looked around the room, every Council member's attention was focused on her. "
I think it's a great idea. The Fletching Clan would be of great benefit to us."
"
Then it's settled. Rave, travel to the Plateau and let the Fletching Clan know that we accept their alliance. And Tragedy...," Aries lowered her voice as she looked into the bright green eyes of the pearlcatcher before her, "
This alliance is on you. Do not make me regret this."
Aries sifted through the box lined with pink paper and with a swift motion, cast the tarts to the ground. "
I hate duneberries." With a nod, the Council was dismissed. The confections, so carefully made, were left scattered and crushed in the snow.
3/27/17- Sham and Roxana had been in the Glass Shatter for a long time, nearly a year by Roxana's calculations. Long before the clan had left the shadows to join the ice region they had been a part of Aries' following.
With each passing day, Roxana's heart grew heavier. She watched as her daughter, Lath, slipped further into corruption. Lath had a mate of her own now, another beautifully dark skydancer named Hobgoblin. Together, the pair became more reserved, more shut off from Roxana and her mate, Sham. The pair had teamed up with Torrance, another skydancer of malicious intent, to gain control of The Peaceful subgroup. The Peaceful were made up of the clan's skydancers, true to their name, the subgroup was typically docile.
But Lath admired the matriarch, she sought to mimic her style of domination. She wanted control of the Peaceful and with Hobgoblin and Torrance by her side, she would terrorize the skydancers into submission.
"There's nothing I can do to stop her," Roxana hung her head low in defeat as she admitted her fears to Sham. "And I can't stay here and watch her turn into the tyrant that Aries has always been."
"What are you saying, my love?" Sham looked at her with patient eyes.
"It's time for us to leave. I'd rather serve the Icewarden for eternity than spend another day here." Sham nodded in response. Of course, he would follow her anywhere. His heart belonged to her. He would miss the clan, he would miss his daughter, but he would never leave his love. They would never look back. It was time for their exaltation.
4/5/17- Tsoriken Joins the Outcasts
It didn't take long for word of the Fletching clan alliance to reach Hades. In constant pursuit of control of the Glass Shatter clan, Hades took it upon himself to keep up to date with the clan's activity. Once he heard of the Wind alliance, he sent Nerve, his trusted ally in the Outcast subgroup of the Glass Shatter, to go investigate the Fletching clan.
It was nearing a fortnight and Nerve had still not returned. Hades, typically calm and calculated, began to get agitated. "Where is he? What could have happened to him? The new allies, have they captured him? Recognized him for the traitor that he is to the Glass Shatter? They'll come to attack us. Ah, but Nerve, he would never betray our whereabouts!" And so Hades continued to ramble and pace, long into the night. His mate, Hera, listened patiently, offering reassurances whenever there was a break in the dialogue. She would never admit it, but she was on edge, too. This was far too long for Nerve to be gone just to spy on another clan... Hades was right. He should be back by now.
It was nearly dawn and Hades had been pacing for almost an entire day, when Nerve appeared on the horizon. Hades breathed a sigh of relief, but as his returning ally approached, he noticed a flicker of movement just behind him. Nerve had been followed! Hades became a blur, moving with more agility than a guardian of his size had any right to. With a low-throated growl, Hades sprung into action and pinned the dragon that was trailing Nerve.
The dragon, a dark skydancer that blended into the low light of the early morning, twisted and writhed to dodge Hades' gnashing fangs. The intruder defended himself with a finesse that could only be achieved from experience in battlefield, yet he did not fight back. Hades' jaws clamped down on the armor worn by the skydancer, a sickening scrape of teeth and metal filled the air.
"Hades! No! He's a friend!"
Hades was so focused on destroying the intruder, that he almost didn't hear Nerve shouting at him. Blood dripped from both dragons as Hades reluctantly released the skydancer from his grasp. Panting, eyes tinged red, Hades snorted, "Explain yourself."
Nerve told Hades and Hera the entire story. He had gone to the Wind region to find the Fletching clan. On the outskirts of the Fletching territory, he ran into Tsoriken, the skydancer before them. After a short brawl of their own, the dragons discovered that Tsoriken wasn't a threat, he was fleeing the Fletching Clan himself and was willing to share his information with this new potential ally. Tsoriken's daughter had just assumed power of the clan, in betrayal to her father. She had been responsible for sending the alliance invitation to the Glass Shatter. He had been taken prison after attacking the Fletching clan. Amdiffyn had spared his life and in exchange had made him swear an oath that he would never return nor hurt anyone from the Fletching clan again. The oath was bound by blood, but of course Tsoriken had never planned to keep his promise. He just needed to figure out a way around it...
Nerve convinced the skydancer to join his subgroup in the Glass Shatter. They were planning their own takeover, a day where Hades would assume his rightful position as the alpha male of the Glass Shatter clan. If Tsoriken were to join them, and aid in the takeover, Nerve was sure that Hades would offer him a high position within the clan. Tsoriken agreed. It was better than biding his time skulking around the Wind region. And, once he figured out how he would return and take control of the Fletching clan, Nerve assured him that he would have their full support.
Hades stood in silence for a moment. Processing what had been said. Then, he nodded his head. Yes, Tsoriken was welcome in their subgroup. He would be allowed to join the Outcasts. But for now, they needed to be moving. They had made quite a commotion and their current camp was no longer safe. Aries would surely send someone to investigate. With a similar authoritative fashion as his mother, the matriarch, Hades silently gestured for his subgroup to follow. They were off in search of a new camp, their newest member tailing dutifully last in line.
5/9/17 - The First Born Returns & a Breeding Pair Retires
Nightcap and Icecap were packing their bags when a familiar dragon emerged from the forest. She had been gone for nearly a year, but the pair instantly recognized their first born child. It was Monochrome.
(yada yada, to be continued. Notes: Aries has decided the pair will be exalted because Icecap is barren. The pair logically understands and is ready to leave. Monochrome appears and tries to convince them to stay, or to run away with her, but they have already accepted their fate. The next day they were exalted, leaving their daughter that had finally tracked them down alone in the Glass Shatter.)
5/24/17 - Salem Curses His Apprentice
His fiery eyes were all that told of
Salem's origin. The rest is a mystery and he prefers to keep it that way. How had he become such a powerful wielder of dark magic? Was it something he was born with or had he trained alongside another sorcerer? Much like
Cthulhu that never speaks of the events that led to his banishment, Salem will never allow anyone to know his backstory. He conjures ancient curses, potions, and hexes, but lives only in the present.
A member of the Glass Shatter clan now, Salem works closely with several dragons in the clan to produce his elixirs and potions. The pair that drew him to the clan in the first place, the Dilo Venom pair, provide him with an inky black toxin that he uses as the base of many of his concoctions. The toxin comes from
Hemlock and
Lotus themselves, a poison that runs through them as if it were their blood. The smallest dose can cause a frightening paralysis. A larger dose is lethal.
Absinthe, the clan's herbalist and nutritionist, supplies Salem with a constant stock of varied roots and herbs. She gathers the plants from all over Sornieth, providing Salem with a wealth of ingredients for experimentation. Salem prefers his solitude, but he would readily admit that Absinthe is likely the closest he has ever had to a being friend.
As the clan's healer,
Impdyne, heavily relies on Salem when an injury or sickness is severe enough to warrant dark magic. He would rather risk his life with Salem's questionable potions and hexes than fail to bring a dragon back from the brink of death.
Aries, the clan matriarch, recognizes Salem's value within the clan. Should something ever happen to him she knows that he would need a replacement. For this reason, she insists on him training an apprentice. Salem obliges, he knows it's best not to challenge the matriarch, but his standards are high. He will settle for nothing less than perfection from his charge.
The first to enter the clan as his apprentice was
Nevermore. Her mother was a witch of the shadow realm, and though she had no interest in imparting her knowledge on her child, the natural born talent was there. Born with an inner fire that fueled her magic, Nevermore had an insatiable desire to learn. She came from a respected and trusted clan in the light realm that had helped Aries retrieve
Daenerys. Aries hand selected Nevermore for these reasons to become Salem's apprentice. Salem, however, had little hopes for her potential.
She tried hard to please her master. She stayed up late studying the scrolls he had given her to learn from. She worked diligently at the cauldron, experimenting with different ingredients to understand their properties and uses. She even seemed to have an intuitive knack for the work. No matter what she did, though, Salem wasn't pleased. It wasn't enough. She just wasn't the right one.
After a month under his guidance, Salem approached Nevermore. The look in his eye sent a chill through her spine. He never said a word. Nevermore watched in unease as a winding, black smoke escaped his parted lips. The smoke was heavy, but moved like silk. It's tendrils wound around the imperial's jaws, ebbing and flowing as waves on a shore. Nevermore watched in a trance, fixated on the smoke. As she watched, Salem exhaled deeply and the smoke began to reach for her. She wanted to turn and run, but her body refused to move. The smoke made its way into her nostrils and took hold.
A sense of calm washed over her body. She began to feel numb. Eyes glazed over with a blackened, smoky hue, the young bogsneak silently left the room and walked toward the harsh landscape of the clan's exalting grounds. The hex would not leave her body when she was out of Salem's sight. It gripped her in its permanence. She would forever wander lost in the Icewarden's realm. Numb to life, numb to death, the sorcerer's apprentice was cursed.
5/24/17 - Chomp Moves on From the Glass Shatter
Chomp had been avoiding the inevitable for far too long. He could see it in
Truffle's eyes. She was bored. Just as she had grown tired of her mate before him, Truffle had lost interest.
It wasn't her fault and he couldn't begrudge her the way she felt. It was in her nature. Every emotional attachment she made had ended this way. Truffle thrived on the sensation of falling in love... not being in love. She cared for him and didn't want to hurt him, so she would never say that it was time to move on.
Chomp had loved her immensely and still did. When he joined the Glass Shatter he didn't have a name yet. Truffle was instantly drawn to him, he looked like her past mate. Though she had grown tired of her old mate, she had still loved him and missed him. The new dragon was content to go by the name of her previous love, Chomp, to ease her pain.
They had been together for his entire life. They had raised children together. They had moved together from the Shadow realm to the Ice flight when the Glass Shatter migrated. They had been through so much, but now it was time for Truffle to once again be alone. He knew he was no longer what she needed and the only way for her to be happy again was to let her go.
One night, as Truffle slept soundly beside him, he held her close and committed everything to memory. The sweet smell of her skin, the intricate patterns sketched across her body, the rise and fall of her stomach as she breathed softly in her sleep. He nuzzled her briefly, a wordless silent that Truffle would never know. Being careful not to wake her, Chomp left their den. With a final look back, he made his way out of the Glass Shatter toward the Icewarden's realm. It was time to sacrifice himself for her.
7/13/17 - Grimm Vows to Serve the Icewarden
Grimm and
Ravish had never been all that close. Though they were mates, they barely knew each other, and neither had cared to delve any deeper than surface level interactions. It had been months since the pair had nested together and when Grimm stopped to think about it, he honestly couldn't remember how long it had been since he had even seen her. They both kept to themselves. Grimm spent his days traveling the Glass Shatter with other imperials of the Isolates subgroup. Ravish was devoted to her duties in the hunting grounds.
It was no wonder that the pair had barely formed a friendship. When Ravish joined the clan it was the matchmaker,
Monarch, that had made it her mission to find her a mate. She saw in Grimm compatible genes and nothing more. He was given the position of hatchery breeder. Envied by others for the ease of his contributions, Grimm had grown restless.
He was bored. He felt unfulfilled. With no responsibilities of his own, he began to dream of the day that he would leave the Glass Shatter. He would take Ravish with him, they would start their own clan somewhere else. But, as the days turned to weeks, and the weeks into months, Grimm's ambitions began to change. Initially, he felt that it was his duty to stick with his mate. Though he didn't choose her, he was committed to her. Now, he was ready to move on from the Glass Shatter. But not with Ravish.
He had to tell her. He owed her that at least. His intuition was right, it didn't hurt her at all. He explained to her that he wanted a purpose. That she had her hunting, but he had nothing to fill the long days. He had decided to commit himself to the service of the Icewarden.
Ravish met his resolve with a kind understanding. She couldn't imagine the boredom that would come from her being unable to hunt and contribute to the clan. She would help him. She woke up before the dawn the next day. She hunted with a determination that resulted in a greater kill than she had ever accomplished in a single day. She hid the excess and filled a pack for her mate. He was packing his own things when she approached him with her unexpected offering.
She brushed his check with her claws, the closest gesture to genuine affection that she had ever given him. They nodded to each other in understanding. It was time for him to leave. Ravish walked silently with him to the edge of the Glass Shatter territory. They never spoke a word to each other, but understood each other all the same. It was the closest the two had ever been and now it was time to part. Ravish stood in solitude as Grimm stole into the night. She waited until every trace of his presence had disappeared before she turned and headed back to her clan.
9/7/17 - Knockgrafton is Exiled
Knockgrafton's greed would be the end of her.
Radical was the one to notice. She had already had her suspicions, the coin purse she turned in at the end of the day from her dragon sales had seemed just too light to be accurate. This had been going on for weeks, but she just didn't have the proof to catch her. Knockgrafton had only taken a bit from the top, just enough to go unnoticed, but Radical's shrewd eye could tell.
This was the day she caught her. She had seen the other mirror stealthily tuck something away in her pocket when she thought that no one could see her. Radical charged toward her and violently slammed her to the ground. She wrestled the cloak from the struggling dragon and tore at the pockets. Two pieces of worn treasure clinked pathetically against each other as they fell on the rocks below. Enraged at her treachery, Radical lunged for her neck in an attempt to kill her then and there. Before she could,
Charge, the lead of The Swarm, had approached the scene.
"NO!" She screeched. She knew. She had seen the change fall from her pockets just as Radical had.
"You don't like being alone, do you Knockgrafton? You've always needed a pack. The Swarm is where you feel you belong, isn't it? Yes, I'd say you're even afraid of isolation." A sadistic grin played on Radical's lips, she knew where Charge was going with this.
"Exile." Giving her command, Charge left Knockgrafton kicking and screaming as Radical began to drag her to the exalting grounds. Blood trickled down the scruff of her neck from where the larger mirror's teeth pierced her skin. Her protesting wails could be heard throughout the Glass Shatter territory. She should have known better. No one betrays the Glass Shatter and gets away with it.
8/24/23 - Aries Decides it's Time to Move On
After a long stint of silence in the ice realm, Aries is ready for a change. She announces to her Council that it's time to move the lair to earth domain. The Fortress of Ends is getting overcrowded by the day, and it's getting harder and harder for Aries to conceal her growing clan. Sending the scouts ahead to map out a secluded area in Dragonhome, Aries prompts her Council to move the groups one by one.
Over the years in the ice territory, Aries had become increasingly paranoid -- keeping her scribes hidden within her hibernation den and forbidding much -- if anything -- to be written about the inhabitants at all. Now, as they make the move to the barren rocky grounds, she is allowing the scribes to once again write the stories of Glass Shatter Clan. But, although they've come out of their frozen hiding place, they will never drop their guard.
