Biography

He’s wandering. He doesn’t know where, but he likes the thought. “He’s wandering. He’s wandering.” The thought repeats over and over again until he catches himself muttering it softly, over and over again. It rolls off his tongue and glides over the wasteland, catching on the evening breeze and going and going until it’s gone. The Pearlcatcher taps his signature object twice. Twice. Must do everything in two, two taps, two repetitions of a phrase, two horns. The last one isn’t true, but it is. If he concentrates hard enough he can feel the gentle weight of a second horn on his head, and he can breath (two breaths, inhale exhale, inhale exhale). Why was he leaving? He didn’t know. There was really no reason to go, but then again, there was no reason to stay either. He should probably tell someone, but then he would have to go back and then he wouldn’t be wandering, she would be. And it’s not like he couldn’t just tell someone, but that was too stressful and he would have to do it twice. Two taps. Two breaths (inhale exhale, inhale exhale). Before he knows it he’s left Plague territory and has made the short jump into Arcane. The land is markedly different, and he can feel the energy seeping up into his claws and surrounding him. He’s disoriented at first, and barely notices the mulberry Fae that is flying over head. The Fae lands close to him, and it makes him yell and jump back. This, of course, startled the Fae, who by all means should have been seen from the beginning. Loud red stripes streak up his wings and down his spine, and bright blue and purple apparel is draped over his small body. He yells again. (Two times, two taps, inhale exhale inhale exhale) “Woah, woah, calm down pal,” the Fae’s body language conveys worry and kindness, but his voice is typically monotone. “I didn’t mean to scare ya’, you just looked super lost, and like, that’s no fun.” Grunting, the Pearlcatcher wraps his claws around his prized object, cautiously resting on his hind legs. (inhale exhale, inhale exhale) The Fae waits, face scrunching up as the seconds tick by. “Yo, can you speak?” “Yes.” “Oh, good! Hey, if you’re lost, you could come back to my clan. It’s getting pretty dark.” He looks up at the sky, noting that, yes, it is pretty dark. He nods, twice, and stands to follow the smaller dragon. The Fae seems to hesitate, before flapping his wings and rising into the air. “Follow me. It’s like, not that far.” They travel in relative silence, which is only broken by the occasional noise from the Fae. He’ll make a grunt, or clear his throat, like he wants to start a conversation but isn’t sure how. Eventually, he stops, pointing up one of the tall ridges to a cave. “It’s just up there, but yo, I forgot to tell you my name!” he laughs nervously, and the hood around his face crinkles up as he does. Somehow, he can make exclamations with his monotone voice. Impressive. “I’m Cyrus!” “I’m, Cal-“ he pauses, coughing a bit and looking at nothing in particular. He coughs again (inhale exhale, inhale exhale). “Just Cal.” Cyrus stares at him for way longer than is comfortable. After what seems like an hour, his face splits into a huge grin. “Well, come on then dude.” He flies up, approaching the mouth of the cave. Cal is left wondering how such a happy looking face could speak so flatly. He didn’t even think Faes had facial expressions. But he shrugs it off, securing his pearl as he follows Cyrus into the cave. He doesn’t know how long he’ll stay, but something seems to settle deep within him. For once, a sense of calm penetrates his bones, if only for a moment. Two taps. (inhale exhale, inhale exhale) |
