Spirit of Rebellion

"I don’t dare let darkness have its way with me"

He was one of the few left from the beginning. Through the Purge, the First Departure, the Civil War, and the Second Departure, he remained steadfast and loyal by Arietna’s side. Though he wept when his mate chose her false Spirithood over a chance at a new life with him, he kept to his choice and carried on the best he could. If anyone were to guess a Spirithood for him, they would have declared him the Spirit of Loyalty, so it came as a surprise to everyone - even Arietna - when a whisper in the wind declared him the Spirit of Rebellion.

But he supposed that rebellion didn’t always have to involve violence. Rebellion came in the form of remaining optimistic when the clan limped on its last legs in the aftermath of the war. It came in the form of compassion, radical when shown in a world built on cruelty. It came in the form of moving forward with the belief that all things would pass, even if they passed painfully.

Until those stopped being acts of rebellion, he supposed he would always be happy to be the Spirit of Rebellion.

Important Items

Sometimes Arietna needs a word with Bokbunja and Defiance, his Divine Companion, because of Defiance’s tendency to run around the other world for too long. Though Bokbunja does his best to mind Arietna’s warning that he is meant to close tears between the worlds, not cross through them for a joyride, Defiance’s bold hyperactivity often needs more attention than he could give when he was in the clan’s world. He does admit that Defiance has a remarkable ability to tell when he’s feeling cooped up himself and time their adventures into the other world for the moments when he grows unbearably restless.

A gift of sorts, and a reminder of what is truly important to him. Though they had not been close, Athanasios left the shoulder guard with him, perhaps with a premonition about their disparate fates. “Remember what you and this shoulder guard have in common. Keep it close if I don’t come back.” When Athanasios didn’t return from a routine excursion leading up to the Second Departure, he put it on himself as a reminder that he protects the clan as a whole, not just particular members within it.

Relationships

// Revolution //
Bokbunja’s Protector and last shred of sanity, as he jokingly calls her. She keeps him from flying too far forward, physically and mentally, by acting as his first support system. Their shared belief that compassion in the face of cruelty is revolutionary gives others the impression that they both have bleeding hearts, but that is far from the truth.

// Neptune //
Bokbunja finds it surprisingly easy to talk to Neptune, perhaps because of Neptune’s hyperempathy. He rarely feels the need to explain himself to exhausting degrees, and deeply appreciates that about the Spirit of Empathy. Talking with Neptune and going on reconnaissance runs with him often keeps him from teetering at the edge of despair.
