new lore dropped:
Vennie is Lepus, except he got a whole new load of trauma.
The Story So Far...
Lepus is the child of Pyxis and Emery, two progenitor dragons that first formed the Refuge of the Reedcleft Ascent back in Wind Flight.
Lepus flourished under his doting father and harsh but affectionate mother, and grew up a loud and boisterous dragon that loved to talk to others. Adored by the colourful assortment of dragons at the Refuge, Lepus became an outspoken, extroverted soul who soon started venturing out of his home on exploratory missions. Eventually Lepus took up work as a messenger for the Refuge, being sent all over Sornieth to deliver messages and ferry parcels. He loved this job, and all the individuals it let him meet. One of his most beloved friends is Thessaly of Goldenvale, and their closeness only grew when it was revealed that he was her charge.
Unfortunately, the Refuge of the Reedcleft Ascent, a place of compassion and safety, fell to ruin after it took in a mad scientist and an angry revolutionary. The clan fractured when the scientist's experiments were revealed to have been harming the Refuge's inhabitants. As a result, the revolutionary reduced him to a hatchling and took many dragons who were fed up with Pyxis' lack of intervention, promising to really protect them in a way Lepus' parents failed to. Losing friends and family that had been beside them since the beginning broke Emery and Pyxis. Lepus witnessed their shame and regret that ended in a self-imposed exile for both of them. It left Lepus alone, unable to follow them at their command and without the comforts of family around him for the first time.
Months later, carrying the remnants of the Refuge with him in a small roaming pack, everything changed when he met his newest and youngest sister, Crux. She became the turning point for Lepus, lobbing harsh questions at the older mirror and asking him if this is really what he wanted to do with his life, if this would make him or especially the dragons that entrusted him with their lives, happy. After listening to her and giving it a lot of thought... he decided not only that he'd pick up where his parents failed, but that he would take the steps and precautions to make sure that he would build a place where dragons of all sorts could thrive and feel safe.
He needed funding and backing for such an endeavor. Building an entire settlement into the side of a mountain wouldn't be cheap, no matter how much time and energy he was willing to invest. That's when he was approached by the shady yet generous Ryu, who gladly agreed to pour gold into this new city... as long as he could build his own business there. A Teahouse. Lepus, no longer as naive as he was in his youth, knew that Ryu's crowd was likely to have ill intentions, and yet... Didn't those dragons deserve the right to have a home as well?
Lepus spent a long time conferring with a small council- Crux and a few other trustworthy advisors, on whether or not to take the funding knowing that it would come with strings attached. In the end, they agreed, but weren't content to let Ryu operate his criminal activities without repercussions.
The compromise they reached was one that allowed Ryu to operate out of the city, but any illicit activities had to be preformed outside of the Refuge's reach. In addition, all of Ryu's customers and associates are approached by members of the council about alternatives to their illegal jobs, assistance where it's needed. Lepus is aware that the system isn't perfect, but he's happy to have those with him now who care to make sure that they can work on improving it and helping as many dragons as possible.
