B I O G R A P H Y
If he's told he's done something wrong, Nurse is the type to freeze up at first and immediately apologize, whether he's done something actually bad or not. The thought of hurting another appears to haunt the small dragon, almost like he's reliving a past experience every time something negative is brought up. Nurse, affectionately nicknamed "Nursey" lives up to his name. He's legitimately the closest thing to a proper doc the clan has, and handles a lot of the basic tasks expected of a trained medic. The knowledge appears to come naturally to him. For being such a small dragon he's completely unaffected by the sight of pained, squirming patients, excessive amounts of blood or broken bones. If asked, Nurse will give a vague answer of 'learning from his parents'. The young-looking dragon adores exploring anywhere he can possibly go, and while Nurse possesses the body of a hatchling, he moves with the fluid grace of a poised adult and goes on and on and on like he's powered by a motor. Nurse has a passion for collecting flowers, using his magic to keep them preserved perfectly in ice that won't melt. He also really enjoys climbing, mentioning that it feels like his limbs 'just don't get tired' and this allows him to see some really beautiful and satisfying views. |

H I S T O R Y; Adulthood
And what would be something absolutely game-changing? To wipe out pain. Anything from chronic to what naturally occurred upon being injured. It inspired the now adult Nurse to experiment with what caused pain and what could not just numb it, but completely remove it altogether. This tended to involve messing with nerves and pain receptors in and under the skin. At first it was simply experimenting on himself, but after essentially destroying all the pain receptors in his limbs including his wings and tail, Nurse was faced with the fact that in order to keep getting data on pain transmission he needed those who could feel pain in an extremity. Lest he start messing with the pain signals travelling up the spinal chord. Just removing pain out of the equation altogether turned out to cause Nurse problems with knowing when he was hurt. It led to situations where he would scrape against something and continue on bleeding for minutes afterward without realizing. So instead of just ridding someone of pain altogether, he needed to be able to engineer a biological substitute for them to know when they were hurt without actually feeling that discomfort. And ideally, he wanted to rewire the brain itself so it could distinguish between the what it should be feeling when injured, but not if chronic pain decided it wanted to flare up. links to past experiments; one, two, three, four, five |
H I S T O R Y; The Change
The Refuge of the Reedcleft Ascent went from a safe place for Nurse to test in generally cleanly environments without fear of being questioned too much, to a birthplace of hysteria and criticism. Upon looking at the scared, squabbling inhabitants all staring at him and each other with distrust, Nurse only cared to ask if any of his research was safe or if they'd raided his laboratory too. This broke something in one of the onlookers, a righteous imperial named Seraph who berated him and a few other known 'rotting apples' of the Refuge for what they'd done. In a fit of fury and rage only egged on by Nurse's emotionless responses and sarcastic offer to see if he could solve Seraph's anger issues on his examination table, Seraph struck out at Nurse. There was a blinding flash of light, the sound of Seraph panting from the magnitude of magic he'd just unleashed, essentially a blast of energy. But instead of smoldering remains of a sadistic snapper, there stood instead a tiny purple hatchling not even the size of a imperial's head. Blinking, disoriented, Nurse peered up at those around him with confused white eyes, not understanding why everyone was gawping at him or even where he really was. No memory of his adult life has been retained by the transformed dragon, but he has been able to piece snippets together from hushed whispers of those that dare to speak of the monster whose actions fractured the Refuge and caused Seraph to show a fraction of immense, frightening power. |

Nurse was not really a good dragon. the spell that made him innocent and childlike again was after he did some truly abhorrent experiments in an effort to find out what caused disease and suffering and what could stop it. He went into some true mad-doctor territory.
he's better now, but still sad.
Pumpkin reluctantly grew up but never lost his inner hatchling. Nurse won't ever get that chance.
lore wip!!
-shoulder length messy/fluffy hair, solid purple without rosette markings
-rosette markings form basically freckles on his cheeks
-has the hornspikes almost obscured by his hair
-wears a huuuuge white or lavender shirt (think: hospital patient gown)
-if his bangs aren't pinned back with a butterfly hairpin, they'll pretty much cover one eye
-big white eyes with dark rims from the rosette markings/possibly tiredness
-skin tone is a tan or light brown! think... latte-ish, on terms of the colour wheel?
