Vard is a hothead. He has no problem letting his emotions be seen and heard by everyone in a five mile radius. He's loud and has trouble controlling his volume, often yelling even when it's not really necessary. He's stubborn as a mule and engaging in any kind of debate with him is usually tiring and useless. The only person who can get through to him with relative ease is his mate and colleague, Rokia.

The pair of Gaolers arrived to the clan suddenly and without warning, guided by the strong smell of a shadebeast emanating from the sanctuary. Originally determined to capture and transfer the creature to the Fortress of Ends, the two managed to do considerable damage to the clan grounds in search of their target before Baldur and Isla finally got through to them. Explaining the situation and demonstrating to the newcomers just how things with Myrkur worked in the clan, they were able to reach a compromise.

The creature could stay if the Gaolers could stay to keep an eye on it. Since the clan is always open to new members, a warm welcome was extended to the former-seekers-now-keepers on the condition that they help rebuild what they wrecked.

Ever the bullhead, the compromise was much harder for Vard to accept than it was for Rokia. Vard had always felt very strongly about the Shade, and doing his job right no matter what had always been his number one priority. Rokia was, however, able to talk him down, and once their superiors had given their blessing to the idea Vard could finally feel better about the unexpected career change. He's still as hardworking as ever, simply now there's the added bonus of getting to study a dangerous monster whenever he wants.
