Lord Nicholas, while not the heir of his extended family's holdings, he is the heir of his father's title of Baron. However, when he was offered the chance by his grandparents to sail on one of their ships, he took it and has not returned home for more than a few days at a time.

He is a dreamer of the highest degree and wants nothing to do with the social jockeying that is necessary for life in the Court. He is much more interested in gathering cultural stories, studying local wildlife, and generally enjoying the scenery. He does actually have the duty of being his grandparents' representative on the ship and during particular trades, but he rarely has to do very much.

He hears the calling of the sea and feels odd when he is away from it. He feels a great sense of wanderlust. Sometimes he even gets to feeling a little stir crazy if the ship doesn't land soon enough. He loves nothing more than getting lost in a new city. If he really could get lost. His sense of direction is so good, getting lost is functionally impossible for him.

He writes home very often, and typically includes sketches of the most recent wildlife observed or landscape viewed. His parents often ask him about his intentions to visit home and while they try not to pressure him, he does get asked once in awhile whether or not he intends to fulfill his duty as an heir, or if it will fall to his siblings. He always ignores the questions.

He's not one to talk much about himself or his personal intentions, he finds his stories about his travels to be much more interesting to any listeners.
