Empire of Death: Order of Bone

Velous was the last born in Death Clan's first nest. She was part of their beginning when the clan was still small; only composed of her father-their leader- and her mother- his mate and second in command. Her middle sister, Psycho left to join a different plague clan when they were young while their eldest sibling, Drip, was taken by water dragons and died. No one spoke of her after that, though as she grew older Velous wondered if they would have cared more if a male heir had died. Cerberus seemed to be disappointed despite the care he showed them.

However, it wasn't long before she was taken from her birth clan as well. It wasn't far away; still a territory in Plague like Psycho. The dragons there were brutal however and didn't show mercy to her even as a hatchling. It was there in that clan of nearly half starved dragons that she learned how to survive in such a harsh world that she had been born into.

Fear was something Velous was taught to hide from a young age. If she showed fear, she showed weakness, if she showed anything other than power, she would risk losing her life in battle. It was hard to learn at first but she was taught as soon as she grew up to fight for what she had in life and to take what she needed from others. It wasn't completely barbaric however. The tyrant leader and his queen of the Rotting Citadel also had advisers to guide their dark ways. Most of her life was still composed of aggression and need for power however despite the better dragons. No one there was a saint.

Years went by with her life being a battle ground between staying alive and trying to gain in rank. It became easier as she went but she never felt like she was going anywhere in the clan. Her scales were a look of toxicity and stripped skin on her wings, much different than what she remembered her looks being as a hatchling and the fuzzy memories of her parents seemed so different than her current looks as well. Did she miss them? Death Clan in general? It would have been a lie to say Velous never wondered about them. And her remaining sister, how was she? Velous never let these thoughts slip through to the other dragons around her. It was too dangerous to reveal her sentiment.

Eventually though, after her second year at the Citadel, Velous realized there wasn't a place for her there. She could fight until her wings were torn off and her teeth went dull before finding her true place. The dragons there knew it too and as expected were prepared to send her off to Plaguebringer. They did however, grant her the opportunity to go home in peace. No hard feelings, no strings attached, nothing... Just a chance for her to go home. It was almost as scary as going to serve the deity. Would her family even accept her back? Velous decided to try though and the message was sent out. It wasn't long at a crossroads through territories that a dragon came to meet her.

Velous had walked anxiously into the new camp near the center of Plague land. The clan had grown much more than when she had left. There were so many new dragons while the few she recognized were larger and older than she remembered. Her father was standing in the center of camp waiting for her expectantly while her escort- a menacing male tundra named Vetis- walked off without another word. Her mother was no where in sight but another mirror similar to her father walked out to join him as he approached.

It was hard for her to comprehend everything that had happened while she had been away. Cerberus had done so much for the clan it was like he had forgotten any of his children, her nest and the others, had even happened. Death Clan was a clan made for war and worked like an empire almost. She almost felt as lost in her birth clan as she had in the Citadel until Cobrascales finally came out to help her adjust. Velous became a part of her birth clan again, never forgetting what she'd been through but moving on from the past. After the adjustment she stayed away from her family and worked on her own as a mercenary in the clan. Fighting and killing was all she knew and Death Clan seemed to have use for dragons like her.

She would never be given a chance to be the second in command or even heir to the clan here. She wasn't the first born or even male. Of course, even if Cerberus' remaining living son Leon came back, he would be in the same if not worse position. Velous didn't mind; she was content with not having that much power in her life. In fact, it almost seemed to be a burden. Her father had lost nearly all of his children other than her and a half brother she'd never met named Leon- it had seemed Psycho had met a terrible fate with the Gladekeeper- while her mother was in a lowly ranking in the clan left with only her new mate for comfort after being replaced by Anubis after a line of other dragonesses. No, Velous was very content to be a mercenary without attachment to any one dragon. A loner would never have to have their pains.
