The Shifting Expanse is not a quiet realm. Gratia grew up with the sound of crackling energy shifting between the coils and conductors of the Lightning Farm and Tempest Spire. This constant thrum, an ever-present tempo, was the background music he learned to dance to as a child. He found it hard to sit still. One of many children, Gratia and his siblings were often running around— playing and singing. But this coatl preferred to dance around while his siblings played in other ways. He couldn’t quite explain it, but there was something terribly satisfying about moving to a certain tempo. Soon, it became clear to his clan that he was a natural. He was never formally instructed, but his talent still seemed to grow with every passing year. Eventually, he left the clan to travel the world. Gratia wanted to learn about all the other different dancers and expand his own skills as well. It may not have been conventional, but it made him happy. It’s said that the sheer beauty of Gratia’s dance would put even the sunrise to shame. The way he twists and twirls to the music is more than the simple repetition of memorized movement— it’s a prayer, a revelation, and a sublime experience. Many rich dragons have sought this coatl out in an attempt to hire him to dance for them. From rich traders to actual royalty, many different people have tried to tempt Gratia into giving them a private performance in exchange for coin or barter. But just as no one can own the rise and fall of the sun, even for a day, Gratia’s performances are not something that can be purchased. He dances only because he feels the desire deep within his soul. While he doesn’t accept payment for private performances, Gratia certainly won’t turn down gifts from his many admirers. He’s collected all sorts of lovely apparel and trinkets over the years from fans: colorful silk ribbons, jewelry inlaid with precious gems, dried flowers encased in resin, and other sorts of gifts have found a home in his ever-growing hoard. He treasures all of them dearly, and seems to be genuinely thankful to the people who give them to him. Gratia might be well-known, but it doesn’t seem to have gone to his head. bio by phyrne |
