RADIENT THE STEADY

For a long time, Radient devoted his life to gathering and documenting stories from the world's first Imperials. These dragons were legendary—made from the shed essence of the Lightweaver herself. He would get information on the whereabouts of these Imperials and travel across the land to talk to them. Eventually, he came to a Clan in the Windswept Plateau, where a second-generation Imperial named Katima resided, intending to interview and study her and her life story in the clan.

Months after beginning his research in Katima's clan, Radient began to have a recurring, peculiar dream. An Imperial female would rise from the ocean water, shuddering, alone, silent. Each night the dream came to him, he would wake up from a sound sleep, wondering what the dream could have meant. Was it a prophecy or vision of some kind? Was the ocean dragon real? By the way she shivered each time she came out of the ocean, he guessed that she was not in her natural element there. She may have been lost and afraid. The dream plagued him for weeks, months, until he decided he would go out and search for the dragon of his dreams.

To Radient's surprise, he found her on a coastline, very ill and weak. Her name was Leto, and she was apparently unable to speak. (She had spelled her name for him in the sand.) He led her back to the clan, where the medical experts nursed her back to health. Leto was so grateful to Radient for saving her life. The two became very close before officially mating themselves to one another, and they remained with the clan even after it had split into three factions, becoming the Clan of the Three Courts. They tried to remain neutral, staying out of divisive political decisions and debates.

They raised a few nests of hatchlings together with success, teaching them all the important lessons in life, watching them grow into respectable dragons. However, due to an accident involving missed incubation periods, one nest ended up not hatching on its own. Radient, who was warming the nest by himself that day, helped the eggs to break open, only to discover that all of the babies were dead. Dead Imperials, in close quarters...

They had never imagined even deceased babies could morph into an Emperor dragon.

Radient was able to overpower the creature. Autumn, the clan's healer, was greatly intrigued by the Emperor. Normally so large and bloodthirsty that they frightened even deities, the Emperor dragons were far too dangerous to study up close. But the Emperor Radient had wrangled was a manageable size. She and Radient bound it with chains and trapped it deep in the caverns of the clan territory, unbeknownst to Riona, the leader of the Court of War. In fact, they had convinced her entire court, including Leto, that they had disposed of the Emperor by themselves.

Radient and Autumn keep the little Emperor locked up in its cavernous prison, studying its nature and biology. Their ultimate goal is to see if they can rehabilitate it, make it a sentient creature with thoughts and emotions, just like any other dragon, rather than a mindless murder machine. They are fully aware of how illegal their actions are. They work day in and day out, knowing that they could be exiled if the Riona discovers what they're doing—after the Court of War destroys the Emperor, of course.

Leto, heartbroken over that one clutch whose eggs had rotted (or so Radient told her), found an abandoned egg. She and Radient adopted it as their own, watching it hatch into Aegus, the tiny Fae with the heart of adventure. They do their best to be loving parents, but as of late, Radient is becoming increasingly more preoccupied. After all, he has a secret project to attend to and worry about constantly.
