Biography
It was cold. So cold. The kind of chill that sunk deep into your bones and ate you from the inside out. The kind of frost that made you forget what it was like to feel warm again.
Leto had never been this freezing before. She felt as if she was dying; swirling in an ever expanding void of empty space, never stopping, never starting. Suddenly, she began to pick up speed, and a massive wave of water swelled beneath her and tossed her high into the air. She felt her body plummet downward, and then nothing.
She awoke on shore, her body seemingly intact. She stretched out her wings and tested her legs, taking slow and steady steps forward. She paused only when she reached the forest, and looked up to see an expands of thick bramble and bushes standing in her way. She took a deep breath, steeled herself, and plunged into the thicket.
She traveled for what days perhaps even weeks. She found little food on her way; the path was abundant in berries but they were bitter and offered nothing to ebb her growing hunger. At last, when her body could no longer take it, she collapsed.
She felt as if she was dying; swirling in an ever expanding void of empty space, never stopping, never starting. Yet there was a rhythm this time, a steady pace of beat after beat, as if she was…walking?
She opened her eyes, and found herself laying across the back of an enormous, glittering dragon. His scales reflected each ray of sunlight individually, and Leto was dazzled.
He must have noticed her stirring because the giant dragon stopped, setting her down gently. He smiled kindly and offered her food and water from a pouch around his waist. She took it gratefully.
“My name is Radiant.” His voice was powerful but soft, “What may I call you?”
She opened her mouth, shaking her head silently, a claw to her throat.
“Are you mute?” He asked, and she nodded. She extended a claw and wrote in the sand before him four letters: L E T O.
“Leto.” He said, and she smiled. “Well, Leto, please come back to my clan with me. There you will be safe.”
Despite finishing his offering, her stomach still pained. So she agreed, and he lifted her onto his back without protest. She fell asleep to the rocking waves of his gait, and dreamed of the sea.
