The only thing I ever wanted was to be accepted. This goal prevails throughout everything I do, and yet it is all in vain. A rage burns hot and golden within me, reaching out to destroy when I least expect it. I just want to make the world a better place, to help others find their path, to show them that I am trustworthy and loyal. But there is another personality within me, one that wants nothing but destruction. Why was I chosen to carry this burden? What have I done to deserve this pain? This is not pain, this is power. As a hatchling I was free of all this worry. I would fly off to play among the clouds, my parents watching me carefully lest I fall. As I grew older I would stray further from the lair, out of sight of my parents' watchful gaze. It was on one of these excursions that darkness fell upon me. The clouds became thick and dark, golden streaks of lightning running through them like shimmering threads. An overwhelming smell of sulfur filled my nostrils and I found it difficult to breathe. The clouds became so thick I could barely move. I was trapped! The last thing I saw was the odd lighting rushing towards me. My vision went blank as I felt the corruption shoot through my body, and I fell from the sky like a meteor. I chose my host well. When I awoke, I was in pain and my vision was blurry. I could remember nothing. I didn't even know where I was, but I felt a strange tingling sensation deep within me. Something had taken hold of me, something that did not belong. I had no choice but to begin walking in the hopes that I would find something that would trigger my memory. However, something else found me first: a pack of umbra wolves that had seemingly been stalking me for some time. I feared for my life, and I could feel my consciousness fading away once again. What was this?! A golden skeleton shimmered through my scales, and my mind became blinded with anger. This was not me. Fear me. Feel my hunger. Feel my rage. I am your end! |
I continued my journey. Occasionally I would black out and awaken to find destruction in my wake. I could only guess that some dark being had fused with me, bringing forth a separate personality that yearned only for survival. It had no emotion, no caring, only the raw instincts of an animal. I knew I would always have to be cautious, for I didn't want to risk harming anyone. I never wanted to be dangerous. I just wanted to be accepted. I want to tear the world in two. As my mind cleared after one of my episodes, I saw an imposing figure standing before me. He was an imperial with dark scales, and I felt something...off about him. He seemed somewhat familiar, but I could not remember ever having met him. With a questioning expression, he asked, “Have we met before? I could swear...you...” I shook my head, saying nothing. What could I say, when I knew nothing of my past? Our eyes met, and I felt a connection. We both had secrets within us, something that corrupted our true selves. “Come.” I followed him without question. I had nowhere else to go. I will go where I please. The imperial, who I learned was named Ares, accepted me into his clan. I now train younglings in the art of battle, along with the Guardian ShadowReaper . She's rather harsh with the students. I prefer to take a gentler approach; learning comes from careful guidance, not punishments. I love watching them grow from timid youngsters to brave warriors. It is one of the few things that bring me joy. Alas, I cannot let them grow close to me. I crave the companionship, but I cannot allow it. Whenever I feel the rage building within me, I flee from the clan before I black out and release my body to the darker side of my personality. I fear that if I grow to compliant, I will destroy all I hold dear. I cannot allow that to happen. It will happen. |
