Biography

BwyScT2.gif Yada
;; the cursed healer | he/him/his

"I did not meet Yada until I was several days' in the Inn's care, though I later learned I was in his presence long before that. He apparently has an affinity for riding on Blue. I did not notice the shadowy little fae until he flitted out in the middle of conversation!

Yada is a healer by trade, but appears as though he could use some healing himself. He is thin as a scarecrow, with large sunken eyes and an air of frailty. His scales are draped in ragged cloth, old bones, and scavenged feathers. You'd mistake him for a wraith, if not for the gentle smile on his face.

I later had the opportunity to sit and talk with Yada at length about his long life. You will find the story enclosed within."

Information
Name // Yada
-- Meaning of name // "he knew"

Alignment // Neutral

Class // Druid

Personality // For all his grim looks and odd ways, Yada is a gentle dragon behind the mask. He puts on airs of mystery and spook to avoid associating with dragons he dislikes, the youthful or superstitious. A scholar himself, Yada has not time for such foolishness. Still, he finds himself making exceptions more often than not. Kunto is a very big student after all, despite her endless optimism and questions. Fathom's strength is useful, even if his superstitious beliefs are less so. For all his old-fart persona, Yada is the grumpy grandpa every dragon needs.
-- Likes // peace and quiet, tea, misty mornings, reading
-- Dislikes // noisy dragons, unfounded beliefs, lack of knowledge, coffee

Background // BACKGROUND
-- History // Yada is one of the first dragons to stumble into the Crosslands and Blue's burgeoning Inn - but not on accident. Yada and Blue made acquaintance many years before. Blue, a traveler earning his keep on a caravan as a guard, ran across a nasty pack of bandits. Yada, a healer living alone in the wilds nearby, came to his rescue. As is his skill, Blue struck up fast friendship with the fae; the two kept in touch as Blue continued on his travels.

Many years later, Yada's travels through the Windswept Plateau took him on a detour in search of his old friend. The Crosswinds blew him right into the Inn. It took little persuasion for Yada to set up shop in the Crosslands, where he could provide healing for traveling dragons while also researching the unique magic of the Crossland's location-less properties.

For Yada, you see, did not start out a humble healer. He was once a mage of great power and ambition. But in his greed, Yada reached too far. He stumbled upon magics he could not understand, nor control. A dark being known as the Shade touched him, turning his magic into a corruption that slowly eats away at his soul.

Yada sought solutions from the greatest healers across Sorineth. He found nothing. But he learned much. And, when no one else could help, Yada took up the healer's tome himself. Though he has yet to find a cure for his damaged spirit, Yada has become quite the proficient healer of others. He can cure just about anything with the right herbs and potions, and is a great asset to the Inn.

Still. He wonders. Does the dark entity that touched his spirit still lurk within the shadows?

Notes //
+ can still use magic, despite his curse. But he avoids it, as his magic now corrupts his soul. Yada doesn't know what would happen should it corrupt completely. He is only certain it would not be good
+ occasionally teaches others his knowledge of healing. His most promising student is Kunto
+ really doesn't like cats. They're too big for him. Too likely to eat his face
+ the creepy aesthetic is really just to keep the hatchlings and tourists away. Yada doesn't like children or strangers. He's really very nice, despite all the skulls
+ has and will get into prank wars with Blue and Peregrine. It's three old farts pulling tricks on each other. Many in the Inn take humor in watching the antics
+ manages a herb garden for many of his remedies, though Kunto cares for most of it now
+ spends half of his time at the Inn, and the only half in his lair, which resides deeper into the wilds of the Crosslands. It's a spooky, mist-covered place, with entirely too many bones. Yada might have a bit of a dramatic streak
