Keera comes from a most noble and royal lineage. Her mother is one of the oldest imperials in all of Sornieth, and her father shines bright with the Lightweaver's glory. However, her parents never had much time for her, and she grew up too quickly. A childhood was something she never got to enjoy. She founded the Gail'nen Clan and had served as its matriarch for many centuries. Until she met Nauta, she had never dreamed of having children. What was the point of them, exactly? Nauta, however, was filled with so much tenderness and desire for hatchlings that Keera couldn't deny her. The Earthshaker cursed her only two precious daughters with muddy eyes, however. She was so ashamed and distraught with her misfortune that she couldn't even bear to look at them. They had to die; it was clan tradition, after all. "It must be done. Tradition demands it."

First, she was ousted from power by a coup, then, she found herself in the hands of smugglers to be sold. There was rage, at first, indignance, a righteous fury that “one of her rescuers” hardly batted an eye at, when she expressed it to him. But she knew the truth, just as he told her, despite her denial, her scrabble for a sense of decency; of supremacy. No one simply just “winds up in the hands of smugglers”, as merchandise. She was wanted gone. No one saw the glory she knew in her anymore. She was of one of the oldest lineages, yes, born to light, but fraught with wind, the cursed earth itself, and wildness in her blood, and there was power in it, surely, but not the power she claimed as her own. She knew it herself the moment he came into the light of the fire. The one who’d stolen her away from the smugglers, whose cheek bore a smear of blood, and whose claws and clothing were drenched in it. ...Whose eyes shone with the brilliance of a thousand suns. When there is nothing left, when your everything has been burned to the dirt, there is only one way left. Up. Mauram offered his new queen a chance at being reborn, awashed in his light as a soon to be king.
