He was from outside of Sornieth. in his world, dragons were unstable beings that could never assume a single form. The world was broken before it was made whole, where dragons were chaos before the beginning of creation. In order to maintain its own existence, the dragon had to constantly remind itself that it was a dragon, and keep thinking about being a dragon.
Tired of thinking, the dragons became part of the world. He was the last dragon of his kind, and he was getting confused about what a dragon is.
Instead of trying to get answers, he chose to escape the collapsing planes.
It was never easy for him to be accepted in the other plane as a foreigner and chaos itself. nevertheless, in order to disguise himself in the world, he performed a ritual with the dragon of Sornieth -they were like mirrors facing each other, reflecting their curses back at them.
The curse was a powerful anchor, but it could not completely solve the problem because his nature was change.
A wave of curses flooded the dragon and himself. He tried to avoid it by dividing it between his five children, but the repercussions of the curse were too heavy for that.
Someday he will be obliterated the existence by the offspring of his own blood, and those offspring will also bear the brunt of the curse.

His nature is change, so it's not uncommon for him to take contradictory actions.
But his definition of "selfish" is much larger than the usual scope; he sees his clan, his kin, and his companion as all just aspects of himself, and he's not entirely wrong in that perception. Because the boundaries of his existence are blurred, and what comes out of him is not new, but part of him.
His children, while seemingly independent entities, are all part of him, born with an aspect of him. The curse that place on them is tied to it.
he is ruthless when it comes to his kin, and merciful to his enemies(Perhaps peaceful would be a better word than merciful. Because if you want to be safe from disaster, it's best if the disaster itself isn't interested in you).
He basically cares about himself, but there is a side of him that doesn't love "himself".
But he genuinely wants the clan to prosper in Sornieth. Only this is not affected by his nature.
And if he comes to like anything that isn't "himself", he's committed to it. His love for "others" is unconventional and intense, as he does not love "himself".
The problem is, the focus changes from time to time, and he usually doesn't stay with one focus for long.
