Biography
Assassin
There it was. That one prolonged note. That spine-tingling, blood curdling note. It was as sweet as the voice of a songbird, and it was as dark as the slice of an executioner’s axe. It was sung in the corridors, in the streets at night; when the blind assassin walked, who was dressed in white. His steps were silent, his expression dark. The noise hummed around him. Those who got the chance to hear it would not get to see the next sunrise.
It grew louder, and his victim trembled. It invaded their brain, creeping into every corner and tapping in the farthest, most unreachable places. Louder, louder; the song with only one note increased to the pace and volume of a battle chant. He scrambled away on the rain-slick cobble, but it was all in his mind. The note reached it’s peak, and he collapsed; cheek pressed against the cold, moonlit road. Footsteps came closer and his heart pounded faster… until all at once, his heart pounded no more. The figure reached down to bite his neck and finish him. This way, the body would be gone by morning.
And naught but a pile of ashes would remain.
