Melody Silk Hiding Steel.
xxx The elder child of Nausicäa and Asbel, young Princess Melody has always been a model princess. Born a few eons after Nausicäa began her reign, Melody has always had tremendous weight on her shoulders, and yet she still endeavored to help her mother in any way she could. As a young girl, she did her studies without complaint, learning language and culture and anything else she could get her claws on. By the time she was a teenager, Melody had her sights set on becoming a diplomat for the clan.

Her parents, however, did not approve. She was still so young, they thought, and that would be too much responsibility--and her job would potentially take her into the most dangerous parts of Sornieth on diplomatic missions. However, their daughter was just as strong-willed and stubborn as her parents, and they saw that she would not yield without a fight. Therefore, her father gave her an ultimatum: best him in a duel, and she would be allowed to work as a diplomat.

Melody was heartbroken--Asbel was one of the best duelists in the Windswept Plateau, and she would never be able to best him. Firedancer, seeing her granddaughter's plight, gave Melody an ornate dagger to fight with, and Azurewing trained her for years before Melody finally challenged her father. It was a close fight, but Melody ultimately emerged victorious and, with her parents' blessing, became a diplomat for the clan. Since then, her travels have been fraught with excitement, adventure, and a fair amount of danger--but Melody wouldn't have it any other way.

  • As heir to the throne, Melody has undertaken many of her mother's duties, the most prominent being the forging of alliances. She travels far and wide, meeting with clans all across Sornieth. Most recently, she has begun talks with a clan of non-traditional, dragon-friendly Serthis in the Sunbeam Ruins, with her brother accompanying her on many of her trips there.


  • While she will not take the throne for a while yet, Melody already is quietly planning a shift in government, from a monarchy to a democracy, to give the people a chance to decide on their government. She plans to shift Kirian's government after her reign begins--and if she is taken from power by the election, so be it.


  • Ilona, her familiar, came to the clan after a fierce storm knocked the harpy out of the sky, sending her crashing into the fields outside Kirian's gates. Melody found her and begged the healers to treat her. Grateful to the clan who saved her life, Ilona swore allegiance to Kirian and has since served as an assistant, advisor, and traveling companion to Melody.


  • Melody met her mate, Calypso, on one of her first diplomatic missions. What was meant to be a simple visit to an old ally became fraught with danger when the old king's son killed his father and seized the throne. Melody pretended to flee the clan but instead quietly sought out the mage Calypso, a leader of a fledgling rebellion and, in disguise, aided her in overthrowing the unjust king.


  • Melody currently reigns as the clan's chess champion.
