Hematite does not know his true origins. He was sent away as soon as he hatched and was revealed to look more like his mother than his father. He is the byproduct of Pyrite and Quartz using a surrogate mother to produce an heir. While his mother, Safir, hoped to keep him, Pyrite insisted that he must be sent away to avoid endangering Charoite's claim to the throne. After all, the fact that Charoite is not Quartz's daughter has been kept secret from the Court. Hematite, despite being unaware of his troubling origins, has always felt out of place in the home he was placed in. He left of his own accord at an early age, subconsciously seeking his real parents. He has come to enjoy traveling and learning about different cultures. He loves to sample new cuisine and hear the histories of the areas he visits. So far he hasn't found anyplace he feels like staying in, but he has many places he visits frequently. Questions concerning his own heritage and history are met with hostility. He refuses to accept the home he was raised in is his real one. If he feels particularly friendly towards the person asking however, he will tell them a carefully crafted story that he feels better reflects the history he feels is really his.

*A visitor wanders it a clearing near the big top and sees a kind of makeshift trapeze made from wooden pillars and rods with wire swings and tight ropes. Here there are two nocturnes with shimmering white scales doing maneuvers, using their tails to catch the other as they swing with their claws or wings. They did not use their wings, simply keeping the other aloft with a bond that mean they trusted the other would catch them.* *After a bit the boy slips from the girl's grasp and uses his wings to land, albeit a little roughly, on the grass below.* You have to pay more attention Hematite! *the female called down as she spread her wings and took to the air herself* I'm going to go grab a bite to eat, you do some stretches, I'll bring something back for you. *she flies off towards the circle of tents nearby.* *The boy nocturne sighs and looks over to the visitor who had been watching.* Hey, I... Um... yeah. You saw that didn't you? *he laughs awkwardly* Yeah, we were trying a new maneuver and I misjudged the distance and slipped. I'm Hematite by the way. My sister Dibty is the one who flew off. She and I do a little acrobatic show for the circus. *he smiles* It's fun, I like traveling around and meeting new people. Trying out different food is fun too, some of the lairs we have visited have cooked for us and there have been some really good cooks. *his wings flap a bit as he happily recalls* Oh, yes.. fun fact. Did you know that Theresa has the best food? Have you tried it yet? You should. *he flaps his wings again* She makes the best apple pies, and apple tarts and... *he starts to list of a variety of foods, a majority of them involve apples in some way.* ... and apple cobbler! *he looks at the visitor and gets an idea.* I know, I'll show you where her tent is and you can have some of her delicious food yourself. *He bolts off leaving the visitor sitting in the dust. Hematite has disappeared so the visitor just wanders back over to where the tents are.*
