Clan Dark-Blood's flag
If Shadowblood is the brawn of Clan Dark-Blood, Freyja is the one to lead with her brains. Unlike her mate, she is more flexible, less prone to argument or inflammatory remarks. Her gentleness must not be mistaken for weakness, of course, as she is more than prepared to stand her ground in the face of adversity, but Freyja does not batter her obstacles into submission so much as she coaxes them into seeing the world as she does. Force is unnecessary for her more often than not.

It has long been this way, too. Freyja walks the world with a surety in her step, unafraid of the things that stalk the dark beside her. She was raised to know how to fight for her life in a world that so often claims lives, and her claws are startlingly sharp. Still, she hardly uses them, because the creatures in the night know better than to trifle with her, know better than to court her wrath.

Clan Dark-Blood, however, knows her first and foremost as a leader, and second as a healer. While she stands beside Shadowblood in ruling the clan, she is also one primary healer, alongside the young and talented Arlanna, and the clan’s Chief healer, Truthseeker. No remedy is beyond her reach so long as she is given enough time to research what she is up against, and she works tirelessly to protect her clan from illness. The sickness that almost killed Shadowblood was one of the worst she faced, but because she worked so tirelessly, exposing herself to it at every turn despite the danger, she was able to mix a medicine that brought all but a few dragons back from the brink of death. Every day she mourns their deaths, but she also celebrates that so many were able to live, including her own mate.

Thankfully, what grief she has is not all-consuming; Freyja is a champion of moving forward, and she busies herself with minding the needs of the clan, especially the needs of her friends. Arlanna receives much of her attention, as Shadowblood and Freyja's adopted daughter, and Stealthclaw, one of the clan's heirs, is also found often by Freyja's side, whether to share a prophecy or omen, or just to spend some time together, as they are prone to do.

Beyond healing, Freyja's duties also include running errands between clans, particularly when her mate is unable to make the journey himself, whether that is a product of politics or just a result of being on another visit to a different clan. In keeping with Shadowblood's philosophy that no dragon should leave the clan without company, for safety's sake, Freyja often brings Yin and Moirai on her errands. The three of them make an imposing trio, tougher than most things the Tangled Wood has to offer, and more graceful than many others, not to mention they negotiate nearly as well as Shadowblood does, if not better, since badgering the other party into agreement is rarely their main tactic.

The only time Freyja can actually recall badgering anyone in anything, truthfully, was actually the arrival of Hollowknight. She had her reasons to be skeptical, particularly when she asked the peculiar Fae to remove his antlers and headdress to comply with Clan Dark-Blood's strict dress code, but once Shadowblood pulled and pulled on the skull and could not remove it, she sensed there was something different at work. Shadowblood decreed him a monster and wished to have him banished, but Freyja stood in his way, unwilling to dismiss him just yet. She tried to question Hollowknight about his identity, his past, and failing that, she sought answers in other places. Stealthclaw was not yet much of an oracle, but Absinthe was, and her prophecies had been exceptionally reliable in the past. Consulting Absinthe appeared to be the only way to determine what Hollowknight's fate ought to be.

Freyja fretted over him for almost a week while Absinthe searched for signs, and when a whisper from the Shadowbinder finally arrived, it made her blood run cold; Hollowknight was, according to the oracle, a sign of trouble to come, trouble not yet arrived. Something lurked, a terrible thing just waiting for the opportune moment to strike, and Hollowknight appeared to be the only thing standing in its way.

So Freyja confronted her mate. They argued bitterly, Shadowblood's temper and insistence that Hollowknight was a monster getting the better of him, but ultimately, Freyja hounded him into submission. The Fae's presence was critical for the clan's survival, whether Shadowblood liked it or not.

To this day, it is still not clear what role Hollowknight is meant to play, but every time Shadowblood threatens to drive him out, Freyja steps in with Absinthe's prophecy to give her strength. Danger is coming, and she will not let her clan face it unprepared.
