Clan Dark-Blood's flag

One of Shadowblood's first born, NightShred stays close to his father's side at almost all times. He is seen as one of the clan enforcers, and is one of the strongest ones in the clan. While his father is out hunting, he patrols around the lair to make sure that no one wanders off alone, or that no one is coming to attack. Being the Heir gives him many responsibilities, after all.

Due to his constant patrolling in the immediate vicinity of the lair, he can always hear if something is happening, or someone is coming to attack. He has defeated many Centaurs in his patrols, and brought back one as an act of mercy. The Centaur swore loyalty to Shadowblood and his clan, saying that she was a runt and was bound to be chased off for her ineptitude. The centaur mostly keeps near the entrance in the underground, often chasing the hatchlings back into the hatchery area. Nightshred, who is practically her boss, approves of her post.

He loves his mate with a burning passion, and does everything he can to protect her at all times. The healer loves him as well, and is always worried when he goes off alone. Due to the fact that she is the Chief healer in the clan, and he the Heir to the leadership, his father quite heartily approved of their choice to become mates.

Just after the "profit" battle they had, training young dragons into warriors and sending them off to the dark lady, NightShred was turned into a Ridgeback. He found the form to be much better suited in protecting his clan and aiding his father. He also uses the newfound strength of being a Ridgeback to more efficiently aid in the battle training of his clanmates.

Nightshred is a careful blend of his father's vigilance and his mother's stubbornness, born to be the perfect heir and raised to accept it. He is a dedicated soul, unwilling to shirk his duty to the clan, and there is not a soul who dares to stand in his way once he has his sights set. He is a child of war and peace alike, and navigates the two like a shark, always lurking deep in his domain, always prepared to strike.

Even when he was young, he was an intense dragon, born with the hot hunter's blood most Mirrors have the Plaguebringer's loving design. He used to race dragons through the tangled thorns of the Shadowbinder's domain, learning for himself every twist and trick of his goddess's lands. There was much to explore, and the earth beneath his feet was his birthright as the Clan Dark-Blood heir. If anyone ought to know it without hesitation, it was him.

Beyond his competitive fierceness and his desire to oversee all the world which he was set to one day inherit, he also loved with equal passion, which became apparent once he began to court Truthseeker. It was an odd match at first, to see the fierce warrior and the patient healer so enamored with one another, but as they both rose to high positions within the clan, their families began to see not only the depth of their love, but also the wisdom of such a match. After that, there was no question of their fitness for one another, and they continued to perform their duties just as well as before, but united publicly instead of in rumor.

Now, sometimes they must spend time apart thanks to their duties. Truth is often called upon in dire medical scenarios for her healing expertise, while Nightshred is his father's faithful shadow, always there to uphold Shadowblood's decrees. He often runs errands for his father, acting as a diplomat between other clans when Shadowblood has prior commitments to uphold. Additionally, Nightshred spearheads most of the hunting and tracking efforts performed on Clan Dark-Blood lands. A keen huntsman who never lost his Mirror instincts, even after his change, he has a knack for rooting out prey and following it to the ends of the earth. It does, however, lead him into trouble with his mate whenever he returns with new scrapes and bruises from a joyous and victorious pursuit; she would appreciate it if he came home without need of healing every now again, but his wild, racing heart cannot be contained. Such is the way of things, and so it will always be. It makes him grateful for Truthseeker as his eternal voice of reason, but there will never come a day when he can resist the call of passion, not when it makes him feel so alive.
