Ex-Thief and Courier

Lapis was born to a very poor fishing clan, to an absent mother and a struggling father with too many mouths to feed. So, she left on the first boat out of the island, paying her way with hard work on the ship. They landed on the Zephyr Steppes and she walked around penniless and looking for work, but alas no work was to be found for a dragon who had little experience. She eventually landed with a street urchin gang of thieves where she learned how to con, steal, and beg. She earned a bit of infamy for her deeds, being known as the “Blue Viper” for her swift thefts- and though she never became the leader of the gang.

However, her fame was short lived, she got caught trying to pinch some expensive spices owned by a very important merchant. For her crimes she was put on the next prison ship to the Southern Icefields. She managed to escape after the ship landed in Cloudscrape Crags, but she was not prepared for the severe cold of the land. She snuck into the first building she could find, a school for training in the art of the sword. As she ruffled through the clothes in the lockers, looking for anything to keep her warm, she found a diamond pendant, an incredibly beautiful and expensive pendant. She swiped it, some clothes and treasure pouches and walked out the door. She grabbed the next boat out of the Crags, bent on exploring the world- well at least the warmer one.

As she traveled and explored she slowly realized she had someone pursuing her for the pendant. At first, she was terrified, trying to remove the pendant and sell it- but the thing was firmly attached to her scales. She had also alarmingly noticed the pendant was leeching the color from her scales, turning her hide into a patchwork of white splotches. But as she ran she couldn’t help but stop occasionally enjoy the sights and sounds, from the amazing starlight trees of Starwood Strand and colossal Pillar of the World to the broken ruins of the Hewn City and erupting volcanoes of Ashfall Waste. She decided to treat her pursuer like an odd traveling companion, jokingly putting notes for him to find about a restaurant she enjoyed or shop that had some neat trinkets. She did occasionally see him, his spotted scales rather obvious, and took pleasure in watching him enjoy the travels, to spy upon her spy.

SwiftCloud did eventually catch her in the Reefcleft Ascent, and she found she was able to remove the pendant in his presence. She offered it to him and was surprised when he thanked her for taking him around the world. She realized that she had become closer to him than she had thought and asked to become his mate which he accepted. They ended this adventure in her homeland, the Sea of a Thousand Currents, where she found courier work with the Clan of the Lionfish. She mostly delivers letters around the islands of Fishspine Reef, helping to satisfy her desire for travel. SunScribe is her main source of letters, the dragoness writes for the mainly illiterate dragons of the clan- including Lapis who can read but struggles with writing (though SunScribe is trying to teach her).

Lapis is also friend and colleague to the big Ridgeback, ReefDrake, who takes on the bigger loads of shipments. She likes to race him around the reef, a friendly rivalry about who knows the currents the best and is the greatest delivery dragon. Lapis did lose her itchy finger for thievery, mainly because she actually lost a finger to an magic missile when she tried to steal from the Sea Hare Gambling House. She is banned from the gambling house, though in truth she doesn’t really want to try her luck again.

She stills travels out of the reef quite a bit, mostly to visit Fallen Star Fort to see the comedic act of HarlequinRasbora and Clownfish. She absolutely adores the jokes of HarlequinRasbora, and occasionally pulls jokes of her own on her customers with fake snakes and small pop fireworks. She does travel out of Flight with her mate when they get a bit of treasure and enjoys taking whirlwind tours of her past adventures.
