Skaldi is a jumpy, nervous dragon with a penchant for creating beautiful and exotic garments of all kinds. He is most at home when fitting clothes to a fellow clan member or weaving fabrics together into something brand new - at all other times, he's an anxious wreck, always worried about how others see him and quick to interpret the feelings he senses in the worst way possible. It doesn't help that, for some reason, Zann is positive that Skaldi has a great warrior within him and constantly tries to "train" him to be a stronger, more capable dragon. These sessions never end well.

Opheodrys Serthis The Opheodrys Serthis who allows Skaldi to call her "familiar" (or just her name, Vinnea) is one of the closest friends he has. They met when Skaldi found her badly wounded and alone, and rather than ignore her or kill her, he used the clothes he wore to fashion bandages for her. Ever since then she has enjoyed his company - and the clothes he makes for her - as much as she enjoys the company of other Serthis. She rarely enters the Toxic Wastes directly, as she still doesn't trust the majority of dragons, but she's always happy to put aside time to be with her friend.

Backstory

How or why Skaldi ended up in the Toxic Wastes is a mystery to most of his clan mates, as he seems much too high-strung to be anywhere in the Scarred Wasteland to begin with. He doesn't even seem to fit the Blacksand Annex, where he was born; he's more suited to the Windswept Plateau, they say. Or maybe a nice dark cave in the middle of nowhere.

The truth of the matter is that Skaldi didn't mean to end up in the Toxic Wastes at all. He was a small child with strange interests and had been bullied growing up; upon maturing, he decided the best thing to do would be to leave his birth clan and find a safer, happier home in which he could live and make clothing in peace. When he met Vinnea in his travels and tended to her wounds, she told him of a nearby dragon clan that took in all manner of dragons, and it sounded promising - until he realized it was on the border of the Scarred Wasteland. It was the only lead he had, though, and reluctantly Skaldi decided he could at least try to find a temporary place to settle down before leaving again.

It was Scouts Mortasi and Lanetli who discovered him nervously waiting about the edges of the Toxic Wastes, and they led him into the lair after managing to get him to spit out why he was there. On the way in, it was Lanetli who commented on Skaldi's flowing scarf, which he admitted to making himself out of elegant silk he had scavenged over time in his homeland. When both dragons escorting him responded positively to this talent, Skaldi was shocked - he had only ever been mocked for his tailoring.

Andiron authorized a temporary stay, but it never really ended as Skaldi found himself warmly welcomed be the Toxic Wastes, even if they were confused about why he was there. Several dragons even asked him to make them their own apparel and offered to gather the materials for him - a dream come true in his eyes.

He has been there ever since, happily weaving fashions into existence and trying desperately to survive Zann's persistent "training".
