Nikokai is not the sharpest dragon in the lair, but what he lacks in brains he makes up for in sheer, unadulterated loyalty. There's nothing he wouldn't do for his mother; he rarely leaves her side, an unwavering right hand, always a few flaps of his wings behind her, watching, waiting. He never met his father, though he does not consider the absence to be a loss. Over time, he has come to learn what befalls his mother's companions, and remains utterly indifferent towards the subject. Above all else, his mother is his mother, and nothing could ever change that.

Nikolai rarely speaks and when he does, his voice is a quiet, harsh whisper, easily drowned out by a strong gust of wind or the rustling of leaves. He prefers actions over words and is mistrustful of most. He lacks the restless energy that is typical of his breed, which tends to make others wary of him. His eyesight is better in the dark, which makes him a valuable asset to any clan stationed in the Wood. He also has a deep fondness for children -- their honesty, mostly, and the way they glitter with potential. It is for this reason that he's fathered several of his own, though he has no vested interest in dragons who identify as female.

Nikolai doesn't sleep in the cathedral like the majority of his mother's supporters do. Instead, he coils himself around a high branch like a snake, watching the nocturnal wildlife of the forest with uneasy fascination. Though he does his best to present himself as cool and detached, he's actually very insecure, particularly where his intelligence is involved.
