Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this treebat wandered a little too far from the Clarus Clan, and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the urge to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return him home instead, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here.

Xantha loves attention, and used to shout to receive it because that was all she knew. As she grows, she is learning that her nurturing nature and gentle caring brings a sort of attention that lasts and matures into affection. She has been apprenticed in caring for a greenhouse, and will be an asset to any lair with fields, farms, gardens or greenhouses.

Xantha was a bit nervous leaving Clan Clarus, but she found that being alone was better than she expected it to be. At first she was hesitant on the Spiral of Dragons, spewing dragons into various different caves, but Korah showed her that it wasn't bad. She flew into the vortex and within moments, found herself flying towards a new lair to call home. Reaching the Lair of Night Flight, she met Vex at the entrance of the cave and followed the bright dragon into a back cave. "This is where our Host Dragons stay, make yourself at home," Vex purred, eyeing the dirt colored dragon.
Xan managed a small, timid smile and thanked Vex. "Its time to see how other lairs function," she murmured to herself, curling into a corner to get some rest.

Time flew by and Xantha barely remembered her first two lair visits. A blur of colors and faces were all she could recall of her earliest times travelling. She reached a lair deep in the Frigid Floes not knowing what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised to find a warm cavern to call her own for a time. The lair was built -tunneled, she reminded herself- deep into the side of one of the larger glaciers in the flow. Several other wanderers and the offspring of a previous guest greeted her eagerly, hungry for news. She had little to share, other than an excitement for the upcoming festival, Riot of Rot.

A huge imperial, golden and gentle, casually asked for her help during her first day and she agreed readily, only later that evening realizing she had no idea what she'd agreed to. The next morning, Papaver led Xan deep into the tunnels. Glowing moss began to line the sides, and the temperature rose until she wasn't sure how the ice didn't melt. Touching it with a paw, she realized at some point the tunnel had become stone. An enormous cavern opened before her, Papaver flowing gracefully ahead, and glowing green glinted from every surface. It was a greenhouse, lit by vents cunningly cut into the roof and lined with reflective ores to multiply the meager light filtering down.

Xantha spent long hours in Papaver's company, assisting him with his work and learning which plants grew best in this light, at this temperature. She learned how to coax growth from dormant seeds, how to care for fruiting vines, and came to love the deep scent of dark earth. The low rumble of Papaver's patient instruction became a comfortable anchor to her days, and she knew she would forever think of him fondly.

The festival came and went, and Xantha celebrated quietly with the small clan, coming to love the calm understanding the members had with each other and their visitors. It reminded her of growing things, slow and rich, which she had also come to love during her time here. She had grown as a dragon during her time here, and no longer shouted her opinion of everything under the sun without weighing her words first.

Xantha helped Papaver harvest and rotate those green things for which it was time, and told him it was time for her to move on. He folded her against his jaw and spoke his slow thanks, turning for a moment to grab something from a hook on the wall. A clawful of marigolds tickled her nose and she laughed. Before leaving, she fashioned them into a necklace to remember him by. ~Aey

Xantha took off over a vast ocean scene, heading East, hoping for a different scene than ocean. Not too long after she took off Xantha noticed a small speck not too far ahead of her and flew towards it. She met with it's pace and realized it was a fae! They talked for many hours flying farther and farther. Just when it was becoming dark they came across land and decided to stop for the night. They explored a little, going different ways, and agreeing to meet back at the tallest bamboo shoot.

Xantha decided to head up the Reedcleft Ascent, while Akemi flew down the slope. Xantha was suprised to come across a flock of Hainu! They weren't aggressive and let her pass. One Hainu, Cherri, followed Xantha to the top of the slopes. Xantha was suprised at first to find the Red-Breasted Hainu, Red-Breasted Hainu , but grew accustomed to the silent company. Xantha told the Hainu that she would say names and the Hainu had to respond to the name she wanted. Xantha then started listing off names, she said many names including Aura, Mana Berri, and Cherri. The Hainu jumped up and headbutted Xantha on the arm. Xantha decided that the Hainu wanted to be called Cherri.

The two headed to the tallest bamboo shoot and settled down in wait for Akemi to return. Maybe 10 minutes later Akemi came flying fast followed by a grey flash. Xantha jumped a little as they landed on the floor next to Xantha and Cherri. The girls explained how they each got their familiars then went to bed.

In the morning Xantha was the first to awaken. She flew around a little to stretch then came back. She found Akemi and the familiars awake, and eyes twinkling. Xantha was afraid to ask, so she kept her mouth shut. A while later Akemi and Xantha, at the same time, said "I'm hungry". They decided to go farther down the slopes and look for food.

They were flying when they came across a small group of dragons. A pink crystal female Imperial, a sea themed Imperial female, and a red iridescent circuit female Imperial. Akemi asked if they lived here and the pink female, who apeared to be the leader, said yes. Her voice as soothe as silk. She asked if they needed a home to stay in, in which they responded yes. They were lead to a well hidden crack in between some bamboo and dirt. When they went inside they were met with dragons rushing around, going into different tunnels, and organizing scrolls.

Xantha was amazed at their neatness, and the fact that no dragon tripped one another rushing around like that. They learned that the dragons on the patrol were sindarin, ShimmeringPearl, and persaiera(in that order). They were lead into a empty tunnel, wide enough for 5 imperials. They were told that they could stay here for as long as they liked and could help out on different projects around the lair, they just needed to see Silverhand. He was the projects leader. They stayed at Moonclan's lair for about a month and a half and then moved on, gifted each something to always remind them of the clan on the Reedcleft Ascent.

Xantha didnt leave the Reedcleft Ascent. She stumbled upon another lair hidden in the cliff caves by accident. She had been 2 seconds away from turning tail and taking off when the first dragons she encountered were a pair of armored Rdigebacks covered in blood stained bandages. They called out to her though, and explained that they were only sunning themselves outside, and that they were a part of the clans Guard. As they were explaining, a pretty skydancer cloaked in gold silks glided down to her on gold tipped wings. She smiled at her, and welcomed her to the clan, and she led Xantha inside. She introduced herself as Telira, the current matriarch of the Anima Clan. Normally the founder, Frei, would be the one to greet the newcomers with her, but she was off tunneling somewhere in the caves. She walked her through the caves, showing her the vacant spots, before asking her how she was with magic. Xantha explained then, that she had apprenticed under a dragon with an affinity for the earth, and that her own magic was geared towards helping plants and nature. Telira brightened up at that, and quickly called for Tau.

Xantha was a bit wary with Tau, as her mask hid her face, but she seemed kind, despite her mysterious appearance. She led her deep into the Bamboo shoots, where Xantha had the misfortune of having met Meadow as she slithered by almost without a sound. Tau explained that there was a small alcove with a single tree that was the charge of a guardian named Goddess. There was a small garden that she currently tended, but with her simplistic magics, she couldn't grow much.

Here in the alcove is where Xantha spent most of her time. She helped Tau learn more spells and magic that helped the plants grow and flourish, and before long, the garden grew larger and more beautiful. It became a favorite spot for Nature dragons to stop by and rest, whenever they wanted to feel a small reminder of their home realm. It's become a therapeutic and safe haven for dragons who feel the need to separate themselves and calm their minds.

After a time, though, Xantha came to realize that this place was not for her. She flew off, not knowing whither she went, until her wings took her to the tundras. She landed, exhausted, on the crystal snow, her claws sinking into the stuff. She could feel - just barely - small, underdeveloped shoots of grass beneath the heavy powder.

"There is no life here," Xantha whispered, her limps trembling from exhaustion.

"That is not true," said a calm, caring voice. Xantha looked up to see a brown female Tundra with green wings and soft, white eyes.

"Who are you?" Xantha asked.

The Tundra dragoness smiled. "I am Conifer, of the IceShard flock. What are you doing out here, little Nocturne?"

Xantha sighed tiredly. "I do not know," she admitted. "I have joined and left so many clans; and none of them had suited me. For some reason my wings carried me north, but I do not like this place. It is cold, and there is little life."

Conifer curled her tail around her furry legs. "There is much life here," she said. "I did not always like this place, either. I considered myself to be more of a Nature dragon, but I eventually found that I was meant to be here." Conifer lifted the Nocturne's chin. "Look around you, little Nocturne. See the Evergreens, that never lose their leaves? See the creatures, camouflaged with the snow, moving about, living freely?" She smiled and patted Xantha's shoulder. "There is so much life here. We are free; the other flights rarely visit, for indeed this is a cold, vast land, and they are afraid of freezing to death. But truthfully, once you find a loving flock here, it can be the warmest place of all."

"Do you...would you mind if I stayed with you a little while?" Xantha asked, invigorated by Conifer's kind words.

Conifer winked. "If my mate would allow it."

When Xantha saw Frysta she immediately changed her mind. Conifer led her up to the great Guardian drake, who gazed at her with cold eyes.

"Frysta, my love," Conifer began cautiously. "I have found a traveler without a home...would you mind her staying with us, if only for a short time?"

Frysta stared down at the Nocturne. "A dragon of the Nature flight," he mused. "Not so young and not so old." He snorted. "Nature dragons are not spies, and this one has an air of innocence around it." He looked up. "Let her stay...'if only for a short time'. Unless she does something to attract my attention, it is not my say how long she dwells here." He turned around and lumbered into his cave.

Conifer let out a sigh of relief and smiled at Xantha. "That wasn't so bad," she said cheerfully.

"Wh-what did he mean?" Xantha asked nervously.

"Oh, the hard part is getting Frysta to let you into the flock," Conifer told her. "Once you've gotten that far, you're home free. As long as you obey the rules, don't make him angry, and do your job, he doesn't care whether you stay or go."

After several months within the IceShard flock, Xantha decided it was time to leave. Conifer tearfully bade her goodbye and she took wing, flying through the icy air. It was time for her to take another venture, to find another home.

Save travels, my Xantha.
