Biography

Nisha
firstgenarcane_by_wesleydog-d8ww2d4.gif

Three little eggs born in the 'Strand.
Two parents watching over them.
One hatched weak and alone.
No one left to be her home.

Before Nisha even truly began her life, there was reason to mourn: her parents ambushed, the rotting eggs beside her still and lifeless. She alone was the only bright spark, the miracle of life that came from an unturned egg, hatching with no one beside her to celebrate the day.

She was feeble, small and easy prey. Her hatchlinghood was spent alone, gaining both scars and knowledge as she taught herself how to survive.

Lessons learned, are not always the ones meant to be taught. There were times a dragon would travel through her hunting grounds, would see her and try to rescue the poor, little feral thing. All she knew, though, was a predator trying to hunt her; and their attempts to capture her only lead her to be more leery.

The second miracles was that she even made it to adulthood. The third was when she became "tame."

Now stronger and faster, and no longer so low on the food chain, she was bolder, grew curious and watched the strange dragons travel through her land, never seen as she listened and, eventually, began to understand.

It was enough that, when he came, when he saw her, when he ignored her, of all things, she could make a connection. She could spit out her anger in sloppy words in response to his remarks, and understand the disinterested hum she received in return. Simple as the conversation was, it left her craving more.

She came to both hate and respect this thing he called a "book." It brought him to her meadow again and again, for peace and quiet and a chance to "read" uninterrupted ("for the most part"), but stole his attention away and brought challenge that at times excited her and others annoyed her. How could it hold his regard for so long? And how did it contain the knowledge he spoke to her about?

One day, emboldened, she crept close enough to him to swipe it from his grasp, shrieking out a laugh as he chased her into her forest.

Eventually, as all things tended to do, their bond grew and flourished—until one day it was love. And that was the fourth miracle which she cherished most of all.

And then she had her own eggs, two little surprises she loved dearly. One who passed on ("Look at the lights in the sky, my love, he's starbound now"), and one who stayed, trouble as she was. As independent as her mother with far more room in her heart for others and stubborn streak as long as an Imperial.

That daughter, Blithe, young and with grand dreams, wanted a clan to call home and others (many, many others) to care for. Nisha thinks that was the fifth miracle, that she agreed, and the Starbound Clan was born.

  • Disclaimer: the beginning is not a poem. It's just written that way for emphasis, I guess. Idk how to do a poem proper.
  • Originally was named Night Angel. Changed to Nisha: "Night."
  • Her firstborn was exalted to serve under the Arcanist's will, and died in a battle against Wind for the Starwind Bay territory. She doesn't hold much regard for flight, but Wind eyes do remind her of her son. And she does now have some thoughts on these "deities" who supposedly rule over them.
  • Antisocial/socially inept. Isn't really comfortable around non-family without her mate by her side. Bright side is, she can just leave! Somebody says hi? Boom! Gone. Or she can tackle them. Y'know, fight or flight. Most dragons don't approach her anymore.
  • Dragons of notable size or strength will have a rougher time trying to earn a modicum of trust from her. Due to them likely being able to overcome her in a fight, she'll avoid being close or "blocked in" by them. She sees potential predators still.
  • Afraid of the dark. Something the 'Strand only exposed her to in winter, where the hardships of the season drew a correlation in her mind to the blindness of night, only strengthening the fear. In a related vein, her favorite color is the same shade of cyan as the glowing leaves of the 'Strand.
  • Just as distraught as Eusagon if not moreso when he lost his sight: equally for herself as for him. He can't read like he loves, but she can't stargaze with him now either.
  • 55ish with five children (four biological, one adopted), and one grandchild.
  • The time she adopted Starwood was likely the only time her Skydancer tendencies for family and empathy kicked in outside of her own blood. Starwood reminded her of herself, in some ways. Maybe not the cult-worshipping-her part, but still.
  • We're apparently not going to acknowledge the cat. Probably just a stray that follows her around because she ignores it.
  • Nor will we acknowledge the nightshade. Either grows it because it's her favorite flower or as some form of dark humor.

Storm Breaks (Outdated) wrote:
The wind shakes the tree branches. They rattle harshly against each other, a symphony of creaking wood and howling gales.

Nisha sighs; her breath disturbs the leaves on the earthen floor. The world is a noisy place today - proclaiming the approaching storm - yet, somehow, pleasant.

She's come to dread the quiet. It was just...too quite. When voices halted and birds stopped their singing, when an awkward atmosphere blanketed the room and two hungry eyes met hers - the past and present, two worries so different but both herald by the same silence.

Other dragons scare her as much as the predators in the dark, she'd realized long ago. She knows it's silly, that they wish her no harm, but the fear still stands strong and at the forefront of her mind.

Because they could. She is small, fragile. Her magic is nothing of note. She knows desperation, how to flail like a cornered animal, but not how to fight, not truly. She couldn't stop them if she tried.

It was why she keeps her distance - wings never quite folded in case a quick getaway was necessary. Never can she bring herself to fully trust, not when the "what if"s keep screaming in her ear, her voice stuttering out as she eyes the others with unease.

It’s why she’s so grateful for the one dragon who's gained her trust, who’s so empty of malice that harm is never even a passing thought.

It’s why she fears losing him: to death, or even measly blindness.

He's forgotten so much, that he doesn't even know he forgot it. How her face looks, or his favorite color, even their home - everything. Pink is just a vague notion in the back of his mind.

The rain pours down, dark clouds sweeping over the island.

Nisha smiles thinly - the action unfamiliar and deliberate. She appreciates the storm for sharing the turmoil within, showing her grief in ways her voice could never express: swirling winds whip the fallen leaves into a frenzy, branches begin to groan louder as, with a shriek, they're ripped cruelly from trunk, lightning strikes and thunder rumbles, all the while the rain pounds steadily against the ground.

Besides her a dragon stirs, sleepy eyes opening to stare unseeingly at the storm before them. A nose twitches, two ears hesitantly flick up at the cacophony. The eyes, unfocused and glazed, glimmer with wonder at the storm's ferocity.

"Describe it," he asks, turning to her. She can hear the pleading note in his tone - that he's trying to hide how desperately he wants this too, trying to keep the constant request from becoming an obligation, a demand. She smiles fondly (strangely, amazingly, the expression doesn't feel foreign this time); her Eusagon, so sincere and guileless.

She'd give up her life for him, if he asked it. He has her trust, her everything.

And so she opens her mouth to tell, eyes roving across the storm-battered landscape, describing it to the one who used to see it for himself, for her Love who never wavered despite the storms they faced.

Just like the one outside, this one would eventually break as well.
