"Tell me again why I'm the one everything's tested on..."

Syntax doesn’t like to talk about his past. It brings back too many painful memories for him. For him, his life began when he joined Clan Arkatek. But it was not always that way.

He was hatched as Maliantor, Fae Warrior of the Order of the Knights of Arcane. They are a secular order, training their members in the art of fighting the beastclans. They will sell their services to other clans, though, and even join them if the price is right. Maliantor swiftly rose through the ranks, leading many swift strikes against the marauding beastmen… though there were always more. They never ceased. They could only be delayed, never fully destroyed. But Maliantor did not believe that.

So, he took a band of nearly thirty dragons, and attempted to strike at where he thought was the heart of the local Beastclans. It was not. The Beastclans were wilier than he had known, and had set a trap. Of the dragons that he had brought with him, less than a half-dozen remained. In shame, and guilt, he cast himself from the Order, in search of redemption.

After wandering for many months, he came across a strange sight. A pair of dragons, one augmented, one more natural - who he later learned to be Eliza and Fortran - were in the company of a swarm of Mith, as well as golems. His first instinct would have been to attack them, but he was wary of it being a trap. And also, though he wouldn’t admit it at the time, the augmented mirror was strangely alluring.

So he approached them instead, and asked them what they were doing. They were surprised to see another dragon, but explained their test (though most of it went over his head) and took him back to their clan. It was an interesting place, he had to admit, with a curious atmosphere. It seemed like somewhere he could start anew.

In that vein, he decided to fully dedicate himself to his new life. He took on a new name, a new role as a clan protector (and sometimes guinea-pig), and even went so far as to find a spell that would remake him in a new image - a mirror.

Right now, he has dedicated himself to defending the Clan, training its warriors, and helping the dragon he admired - now his mate - improve herself. Though she can sometimes get a bit absorbed in her work, he doesn’t mind, because it feels like helping even one dragon is helping him on his way to redemption.
