Among the firstborn of the entire clan is Cockatrice, a friendly stone-skinned Mirror who was born a construct. The mystery of exactly how is not lost on him, but he grew up with a fascination not for the research of his mother but for plant life. Although he assists in the hunt to ensure that each mouth of the family stays fed, his passion is for his garden, and it is there - and nowhere else - that he spends his days.

He has a long-standing friendly rivalry with Shima's son Lot, and the two often hang around together, talking about food and plants and the hunt and girls (and in Lot's case, boys). The "rivalrly" aspect of the relationship really only comes into play during the hunt, when they'll compete to see who can capture he most prey for the hungry mouths of their mighty lair. Some of Lot's unpopularity has rubbed off on him, but he still enjoys spending time with his brothers and his parents.
