Description written by the amazing/kind stags #83820 who also gifted me him ;_;
Planning to edit the story a little myself as well, but it is a cheerful little piece, and quite lovely!

Abel had only just reached adulthood when it happened. His pearl, usually kept close and safe at all times, had somehow worked itself loose. Perhaps it was his love of looking at fish in the ponds near his home (Despite him disliking seafood!). Maybe it was the rainbow trout that had suddenly jumped out of the water and given him a start. Maybe it was his own absentmindedness that caused it. Either way, when he heard that noise behind him, he knew immediately what was going on. Abel's pearl, the most precious thing in the world to him, was rolling down a hill at quite a pace, and showing absolutely no sign of stopping. As much as he enjoyed lounging by the coast and watching the creatures beneath the surface going about their day, there was no way he could let his pearl roll away from him. All Pearlcatchers knew exactly what fate befell those who hadn't managed to keep hold of their pearls. The issue was, though, that the young dragon in question had yet to master the art of flying. The pearl rolled and rolled, and Abel ran and ran as fast as his feet could carry him, but he seemed to gain absolutely no ground on the thing. That was until his nails clipped a fallen tree trunk, and he almost fell flat on his face. In fear of making an even larger spectacle of himself, Abel panicked, and his wings finally chose that moment to work. He was flying. He was off the ground, and he was flying. If he hadn't been so fixed on finding that pearl of his, he might have been amazed at his own achievement. It took a few moments for him to spot his pearl, and when he finally did, he dove for it. Unfortunately, he didn't see the pond behind it and he hurtled straight into the water. When he climbed out, his colours had been scrambled and he was in a region he'd never gone to before. But he did have a new goal in mind: little dragons who couldn't yet fly? He was going to teach them all that the only thing to do was spread their wings. |
