Biography
Mosley Occupation: Gatherer, Beekeeper, Aspiring Aviator, Farmer - barley and oats Mate: Pofka Thoughtful | Cooperative | Restless | Hesitant | Sociable |
|
Mosley is a native of the Windsinger's domain and did not have to travel far in order to reach his current residence in the settlement of Wild Oats. When he arrived at the gates, inquiries were made as to what his business in the town might be, as with all travelers. His reply was simply that he was looking for work. He was the first dragon to openly seek out employment in the settlement, as all the residents that had not been citizens since the founding were all gathered by Shavuot when she bought their hatchling contracts. The Pearlcatcher was older than the typical dragon the town would accept. After all, it can be more difficult to groom an aged dragon for the farming life. While enthused would be a poor choice of words regarding Mosley's attitude towards his new occupation, he did seem generally happy with his career choice. Mosley works the oat and barley fields with Oats and Blake, usually keeping to his own plot rather than visiting and chatting. This suits Oats just fine, as he's never been a talker. Blake also approves, as anyone talking to Oats causes suspicion, even though most times it is unwarranted. Some asked why he opted to journey to the Zephyr Steppes when he already was a member of an established clan in the Twisting Crescendo. To this, his reply is usually "It's less windy here." Mosley's passion became evident some months after he settled into the community. One afternoon, he waltzed into the Inn at the center of town. Most of the residents were gathered there for some evening relaxation after a hard day's work. As if he were announcing royalty, Mosley proclaimed that he had successfully cultivated a hive of honeybees and that he had collected the first "crop" of honey from the hive. Most of the residents were confused, startled even, thinking that such an influx of bees would cause a pest problem within the town. However, Mosley was ready with a rebuttle, informing that honeybees were detrimental to any and all plant life. The townsfolk were still wary, but over the next season, crops were more bountiful and healthier than they ever had been thanks to a healthy pollination cycle from the bees. Even the residents' flower and herb gardens benefited. As an added bonus, the town now had a steady supply of local honey which they use for both the flavor and medicinal purposes. Mosley was mostly a loner for some time. He was friendly with the other townsfolk, but mostly spent time tending to his bee colony in his spare time. That is, until Pofka arrived. Mosley's behavior changed quite drastically, and many of the other dragons were concerned for his health. He seemed distracted, forgetful and had a severe case of "the clumsies," as Hush coined it. Shavuot, being the organized town overseer she was, held the most concern and approached Oats about it. Turned out that Mosley was quite smitten with the newcomer, finding any excuse to take a trip to her bakery. Lucky for him, his honey was a vital ingredient to most of her recipes, giving him multiple excuses to see her. As fate would have it, the Snapper was taken with him as well. For the longest time, they danced around the truth, both neglecting to make the first move, but it did provide good fun for the other dragons who frequently placed bets on the outcomes of Mosley and Pofka's interactions. On a day like any other, an unsuspecting Mosley came across a half-buried rusted chest while out on a gathering patrol. Hauling it back, the clan assembled at the town Inn to open it and see the spoils. Within, the usual old trinkets were stuffed haphazardly. A ragged old tome, which excited Shavu immensely, a meager purse of coin, a strange aquatic relic, which the hatchlings found supremely entertaining and, in the very bottom of the chest, a strange leather helmet. It looked well-worn and aged by travel and the elements, but it was of good make and quality. Mosley was fascinated by it and, since no one else seemed to want it, he donned the thing. Instantly, he saw the appeal of such an item. It was a tad large for his head, and he was forced to set it back on his skull so it would fit behind his muzzle horns, but it was perfection. The way it protected the sensitive spot just under his ears, it seemed that it would be perfect for intense, high-altitude flying. The other dragons laughed and told him he looked silly, all except Pofka who said it made him look like an aviation expert. That was all it took to get the idea in his head. He would become an ace flyer, a master of the skies. Pearlcatchers aren't known for their prowess in flight, but that didn't deter Mosley one bit. Ever since that day, practiced his flying while on patrols, at night after working his fields, any spare moment he had. Pofka seemed enthralled by Mosley's new passion, begging him to describe such flight, as her small wing size made it an impossible task for her. It became a point of bonding between the two. Over time, Mosley and Pofka scraped together enough coin to acquire more pieces of the aviator set needed for high-altitude flight maneuvers. Mosley still lacked a proper coat that would protect his vitals from the chilly air. But much to his surprise, Pofka had purchased an old aviator's jacket from the Elsewhere clan and presented as a gift to Mosley on his Nameday. In all actuality, the gift tag fastened to the epaulet on the shoulder noted that the coat was from "your sweetheart" and it took Mosley a good week to figure out who it could be. A frustrated Little Brother finally revealed who the mystery gift giver was, resulting in months of jokes on Mosley's behalf. But honestly he wasn't aware of the majority of the jokes, for he was busy attending private dinner dates with his new love interest. The next year saw much change within the settlement, one of the bigger events being the formal mateship of Pofka and Mosely, the other being that the Snapper was expecting her first clutch. Despite his mate being in...delicate condition, Mosley continues to practice his flying. Elsewhere (#2238) wrote:
Oats...something is wrong with Mosley.
The Beekeeper? No there ain't. He's fine, the Tundra drawled as he worked in his field. N'less you count having it bad. Shavu balked, hugging herself in sudden fear. He has...what bad? Is this contagious!? Oh Windsinger's scales...what if it's from the crops? What if we lose the harvest? Or worse, what if we lose the town!? Do you know something? How can you be so calm about this!? She had begun pacing. Before long, she'd wear her own furrow into the soil. Relax, woman. He has a crush. The Mirror verbally staggered, trying to process his words. A...crush? You mean like, he's taken with someone? Who? Piffa...Paffy...Pof...the new Snapper girl. Pofka!? That's the one. How do you know? Ain't difficult to tell. Just watch 'im around her. You'll see. Shavuot stood there for a moment, dumbfounded, before slowly turning and meandering off, still muttering things to herself.
Elsewhere, bless you for this drabble.
