It is easy to mistake the large yet beardless guardian dragon for a female of his particular breed, but the truth is quite the opposite - Mal, his full name Malacath, is a male guardian. He has fairly feminine looks, but that has never bothered Mal personally. Those who get his identity wrong will be corrected, and if any jokes start running around, Mal is quick to silence them. After a while, no-one dared to make any jokes of one of the largest and most intimidating members of the Dream Guard - princess Zamirav's special force in battling rebellious undertones in her Court. Mal has earned his place with his adept skills in several types of magic, and is always eager to dive into the Dream Current. During the Dream Guard's missions in the Current he is responsible of sheparding nightmare streams away from Court members, so that everyone would have peaceful sleep, while also watching out for possible magical intrusions or magical spies who would wish to gain knowledge from dreamers while their targets slept. His anchor is the Teardrop Pastel Spinel Choker.

. Mal joined the Court after princess Zamirav had been given power by his father, plague prince Mihailov. Thus he has no large interest in the former Clan's tensions nor does he deem it necessary to make any official claims for support - if Zamirav is the princess, she leads them all, the matter is quite clear to him. Mal enjoys his position as the Deam Guard and has decided to keep it, and any kind of talk of mutiny or another rebellion simply makes him shut down the whole conversation with few well-formed words.

. Mal respects his fellow Dream Guards, and especially their leader, Unia. He has no qualms following her lead, whatever she would decide. He’s learned to trust in her impeccable knowledge about the Current, and even if there might be a situation that Mal would choose to handle completely differently would he be alone in the dreamstate, he is swift to put Unia’s advice into action, no questions asked. Tidus is the one responsible for taking care of the aggressive nightmares met in the Current, and Mal leans on his help when things get ugly. They’ve learned to watch each other’s backs at all times, as they’re the ones solely responsible for handling nightmares within their individual roles. Out of the Current they throw a lot of well-meaning banter at each other and overall will find an enjoyable way to pass time when they have moments to themselves. Shyla, despite her young age, is well-liked by Mal, as her enigmatic presence enables him to do his job. There’s little something akin to a big brother-little sister-relationship between the two of them, and Shyla always has a spot at Mal’s side for some uninterrupted rest. All of them are like a family to him, even Silos, who sometimes tries his patience with his stubborn ways.

. After making himself at home at the Court, Mal's interest was quickly piqued by Zamirav's seneschal, Vudhem. The Dream Guard finds himself strangely attracted to the skydancer, and is eager to gain some kind of contact with him. So far he has slowly established his presence in Vudhem's daily life by pushing into his company during meals and bumping heads with him in Court sittings.

Mal is peculiar, independent and a dangerous twinkle seems to inhabit the corner of his eye more often than not. He is a man of simple tastes yet is not afraid of large gatherings. He can always keep his head up and is hardly ever troubled by anything that surrounds him. When one gets to know him, Mal is actually very relaxed company, and he can be a true friend if let close enough.
