Born during a summer storm, at first Ila's parents forbade her access to the outdoors. Once the weather cleared, however, they did not have any excuses for keeping their third nest's hatchlings inside. Besides, Ila had started digging in the back of the cave because she was bored. By the time Keahi put a stop to it, the hole was four feet wide and five deep. He shooed her out-of-doors, saying she could dig wherever she liked as long as it wasn't inside. Ila took him at his word - Deoradhan-Kunibert's territory is now dotted with various digging sites. Her particular pleasure is uncovering ores in the earth, but she does not discriminate among materials. She fulfills her Charge to create beauty from mundane earth with whatever materials she happens to find on her digging expeditions. She claimed a small cave beside her lair as a studio of sorts, but she doesn't use it often; she creates most of her statues and sculptures in the field. One day, while she was working on a particularly delicate clay statue, she was approached by a foreign Mirror. She pretended not to notice how nervous she was, deciding instead to see if the Light dragon knew anything of art. She was disappointed. But Wulfnod seemed curious, and they talked for hours. Finally, as the sun was setting over the Starfall Isles, she invited her new friend home with her. Thus the clan gained a dedicated scavenger. She often crosses paths with her friend on the outskirts of Deoradhan-Kunibert territory, and they talk amiably about all sorts of topics. So she was touched by Wulfnod's trust in her when she asked for an explanation of the nasty confrontation between Zhirayr and Dumayne, and she was frustrated by her inadequacy at explaining the true meaning behind it - it had clearly been a fight for dominance, not love. She could tell that Wulfnod sensed this herself, dimly, but could not comprehend that she had been used as a prop in their display. And she found that no matter how she tried to explain it, Wulfnod just didn't understand. So when Asunder came to Deoradhan-Kunibert for her treatment, Ila was unsurprised when Wulfnod vanished. It didn't make dealing with Asunder any easier, especially when she made it obvious her contempt of gatherers. Though she acknowledged Ila's Charge. Ila was decidedly cool towards the visiting matriarch. |
