Eden is the youngest of the clan leaders, but probably does the least. Imogen does most of the work, Casper usually stays out of it but sometimes actually has to do his job, but Eden can’t do much. He’s the head of the army and the military commander, which would be a very busy and demanding job, but Kiuvuik is a pacifistic trading clan. There’s no army and no opponents and really no need for him.

In theory, he’ll take command if the need arises, but mostly what he does on a day-to-day basis is manage training and positions. Kiuvuik does need some defenses, taken in the form of port guards and ranged patrols. Port guards wait on the various warfs and accept incoming ships. They help with loading and unloading and also theoretically protect ships from danger. Patrols are sent across the rather large territory, reaffirming the borders and making sure everything’s going well. A full circuit (there, around, and back home again) can be anywhere from a day or two on shorter patrols, to a few weeks on the far border. Eden controls when patrols go out and who’s on them, as well as who has port guard duty for the week.

He also helps train the clan. In the chance that Kiuvuik might come into a conflict, they need to defend themselves, and that falls to each dragon to have at least some training. Eden teaches protection-style fighting and polearm tactics, as well as general self-defense.

past

Eden was born and raised in Kiuvuik. His father Jasper is the Second Child and one of the two founders of the clan, while his mother, Percula, is a Nature priest. He was conceived during a large fight between Chalie (Jasper’s sworn mate) and his father. The two reunited shortly after, but left Percula with Eden. He knows all this.

As neither Jasper nor Chalie are really parent material (though it’s up for debate which one of them is worse), Eden was raised entirely by his mother, earning him the dubious award of “most normal childhood” out of his siblings. He was raised apart from Imogen, his older sister, and Casper, his older brother, due to the fact that neither Chalie nor Percula tried to make amends.

Percula, despite being very young, did a fantastic job with Eden. She was stern but supportive and made sure to never turn her notorious temper on him. She bonded with her son over shared interests (plants, especially creeping vines, old legends, and insects) and they’re still extremely close. Eden goes to her often for advice, or comfort, or just because he wanted to chat.

His interest in warfare started when he was little, hearing Percula’s stories about the legendary champions of yore, and caught fire when he was 10 after meekly following Origin around for a few months. She asked if he’d like to study with her, and after getting Percula’s permission, he accepted.

In the following years, his interest grew to become his job. He’s happy with his trident in hand, whether he’s hunting fish, training a clan member, or keeping it at the ready on patrol.

Out of all his siblings, Eden is the only one who had to Search for his charge. He left two years into his training and returned four months later with a sapphire the size of a fae.

Eden is very close with Percula. They have a very supportive relationship and often get together just to enjoy each other’s company. Percula will often fuss over Eden, which he pretends to be annoyed at, but finds very comforting.

– JASPER + father
Eden never really knew Jasper. They were never together much (Chalie didn’t want Jasper to be with Percula and for her part, Percula didn’t want to see Jasper either) and when he was around, he was… Well, Jasper. Distant; not uncaring, but obviously living in his own head.

– IMOGEN + older sister
It should be known that Eden is made of awkward. He’s not comfortable just straight up talking to anyone other than Percula and, unfortunately, so is Imogen. She’s usually better at conversation, but they’re both out of their element trying to repair a relationship that never really existed in the first place.

– CASPER + older brother
While Eden isn’t particularly close with Casper, they do get along okay and it’s easier talking with Casper than it is with Imogen. (Casper understands “companionable silence” but Imogen needs to fill the quiet.) It’s still awkward between them, but it’s getting better as the years go by.

– ORIGIN + mentor
Origin is one of the largest influences in Eden’s life aside from Percula. She was his role model for years before she took him on as an apprentice. She was also the one who gave him his trident, which is his favourite weapon. They’re close friends and he often goes to her for advice.

There’s a lot of questions surrounding Eden’s charge. How he found it, how he got it, if he framed it himself or let someone else do it, what its significance is, whether or not it’s connected to his tattoos… Eden, for his part, ignores all of them.

Eden’s primary weapon is his trident. Mostly, he uses it to fight, but on particularly slow days, it’s pretty common to see him taking a stab — literally — at some fish near the shore. He doesn’t go spearfishing too often, but sometimes he can be persuaded to actually get in the water.

He definitely inherited his skill with plants from his mother. Eden can coax almost any plant into growing anywhere, much to his delight. Every horizontal surface in his lair has plants, and for that matter, so do many of the vertical ones.

The terrace garden isn’t anyone’s job. No one dragon is in charge of it. There’s a few who go in and take care of it, each to their own design, but Eden probably does the most. He enjoys spending his time there, especially early morning or late at night.
