Wetland Shepherd

The shaggy, fetlocked hermit and wiseman of the Wyldren. Whiskered like an imperial, with star-flowered moss twined in his beard, his faded colours betray his age. He is the river's shepherd, wading through chest-high waters to corral the islands of reeds and flotsam. They say the great river is fickle and ever-changing; they do not know that this is by design. Should some lost pilgrim or meddlesome Valari wander too close to a hidden Wyldren village, the sound of Theafain's flute will invariably draw them back to the mainshore. Its sound is hypnotic, and on certain rare, still evenings when the ancient music carries far over the water, one may watch the cattails, fish, and insects all sway to its tune.
