Biography

Noelani hatched in arcane territory, where she studied arcane warding and spellwork, as well as the lore of every flight. Even as a hatchling, she spent nearly all of her time practicing magic. As soon as she was old enough, she set off, and traveled the realm, learning even more about every flight's magic. When she arrived at the Clan of the Woven Wave, she began setting up a strong magical defense network, as it would work to protect the lair even when there was nobody awake. As time passed, her warding proved so effective that most nights, no sentries were posted anymore.

Another frequent haunt, aside from the perimeter of the lair, is the library, where she occasionally helped out, and often studied. In addition to everything else, she could often be found practicing or teaching on the floating platforms.

When the Peacekeeper arrived, there was something curious about him, and she started investigating. Too caught up in intellectual curiosity, she didn't even think of worrying, or mentioning her findings to Galene, or for that matter, anyone else. She noticed traps and magic that spoke of not one, nor every elemental magic, but something else, twined with every elemental magic, and the fae itself seemed to echo those auras.

Before the disaster, Noelani also had a primary mate, Enlil, with whom she had many hatchlings. Her oldest at the time of the Disaster, the only one who had decided to stay at home, was staying, perhaps to learn, but certainly to find her place. As Perali was the only one of Noelani's hatchlings who had ever remained, the two developed a special bond. Perali was gifted, much like her mother, in casting, but was still unsure of her calling.

When the maren and The Peacekeeper attacked, both fought the peackeeper, though Perali had been about to go out to check on the wards just as the maren breached them effortlessly. While she fled back inside, to warn everyone as best as she could, she had to fight off a few maren to get back. Untrained in physical combat, outnumbered, and ambushed, Perali was gravely wounded. She merely paused to bind her wounds up hastily once she was inside though, and joined her mother and the other casters who were fighting back The Peacekeeper, among them Galene and Tzofiya. However, she survived only through the sealing of The Peacekeeper's den, and the discovery of the emperor, the intense magical demands combined with her grievous wounds proving too great for her to survive. As she had been one of those who discovered the emperor, when she was working her way back to the infirary, to rest, she slumped and died, barely feet from it. Noelani had been following her daughter, and was beside herself when Perali fell, and rushed forward to her daughter's fallen body and pearl. But she was too slow. The emperor snatched up Perali, and devoured her, stepping on, and crushing to dust her pearl.

Fury overcame Noelani, and she attacked fiercely, and had to be dragged away when the lair was being evacuated and even the warriors retreating in preparation for the new fight. Of course, she led the charge back in, and as soon as the emperor was destroyed and burned, she wandered back to the main room, where the emperor had killed her daughter, and sat, pawing together a pile of pearl dust. When Nereus reported back to Galene about the defeat, he told her about Noelani, and Galene came. She sat with Noelani until she could coax her to come back, and the two of them gathered what they could of the dust and fragments into a jar.

Noelani has spent her time furiously researching better warding and practicing, trying to prevent anything like the Disaster from ever happening again.

During her research, she discovered that the primal spirits Hesperos had been unwisely, and incautiously approaching probably significantly weakened her warding, and long talks, combined with their losses of children, brought the two of them closer together. Desperate for companionship of all kinds, they turned to each other and have had a brood together.
