Biography
╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮
"Come wayward Souls, Who wander through the darkness, There is a light for the lost and the meek. Sorrow and fear Are easily forgotten, When you submit to the soil of the earth." ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ At some point midway on your path, you come around and find yourself now searching through a dark wood, the right way blurred and lost. The trees here twist from the ground, some of them contorted into shapes that don't seem quite like trees at all. “Brother?” you call out into the darkness. There’s no response. No sound at all save for the pounding of your own heart. How long had it been since you saw him? How long since you fled into the woods, looking back and giggling as your brother counted with eyes closed? “Ready or not. . . here I come” You had taken cover between the roots of a gnarled tree that dripped with dark sap. It was pretty in the afternoon sun, a deep umber that gleamed crimson as it reflected the light. Now it was nearly black. How long had you been asleep? You must have dozed off in your hiding place for it was dark now and a thick sheet of fog drifted amidst the trees. “Ready or not. . .” You hear his words as an echoing whisper as they weave through the forest. “Brother?!” You call out again. Surely he is coming to find you! Your brother would never leave you behind. You crawl from beneath the tree and wrap your arms around yourself in a futile attempt to keep warm. Something snaps behind you and you turn quickly but find nothing there. Perhaps it was simply a branch. You let out a sigh. It’s getting colder now and your breath floats around you for a moment before vanishing into the fog. Your parents taught you how to navigate using the stars, but the sky is completely obscured and you can only wander aimlessly through the mist. “Here I come” You stop when you hear his voice. It’s closer this time almost as if he’s standing behind you. “I found you”. You feel something tap your shoulder and let out a sigh of relief when you turn and find your brother. You hug him and feel his embrace wrap around you. He looks almost as if he’s been crying and his skin is cold and clammy against your own. “Brother,” you cry into his embrace, “I was so afraid that you’d left me behind. That I’d be all alone. . .” Your body is becoming numb with cold and you find yourself growing tired in his arms. “Brother?” He lifts you up towards the moon as he always does; you can see the sky so much better when you sit on his shoulders. You feel safe even as the head of a great beast emerges from the fog. You can see the stars now too, opaque orbs gleaming out of the mist like thousands of eyes; each pair embedded in one of the creature’s many heads. You know that your eyes will rest among them as well, but it is okay. Your brother is waiting for you. |
