Biography
Shadeborn Subspecies
"Led through the mist, by the milk-light of moon, all that was lost, is revealed. Our long bygone burdens, mere echoes of the spring, but where have we come, and where shall we end? If dreams can't come true, then why not pretend? How the gentle wind, beckons through the leaves, as autumn colors fall. Dancing in a swirl, of golden memories, the loveliest lies of all."

Lore: There is a reason why even the bravest dragons are given pause when approaching the haunted outskirts of the Hewn City. Upon the city lays a curse, which some believe the Shade itself put there. Every now and then, this curse claims an egg (or even a whole nest, if the parents are particularly unlucky or haven't warded their nest well enough) and devours it until the Light goes out of it, leaving it dark, and often dead.
Sometimes, though, the hatchling inside survives, but this might be an even crueler fate than death for them. Because if their mind is still there (which is not certain; sometimes, the hatchlings are nothing but empty husks possessed by the Shade who will turn upon their siblings and nestmates and wound, kill and devour them if given the chance and their eggs weren't removed from the Nesting Grounds in time), they will face a life-long battle against the emptiness within them.
It is not all bad, however. If they survive to adulthood, they may learn how to use and manipulate the Void within them so that they can turn it on the Shade's own creatures and curses, or lay it as a blanket over their Clan. This friendly void will cause the Shade to turn elsewhere, as it believes it already has the area under control. This fact leads to that adult Shadeborn are in high demand among the less superstitious Clans, who do not mind the fact that they can manipulate the Void.
Habits: Even Shadeborn who end up accepted by a Clan prefer to keep to themselves as much as possible, often wrapping themselves up in layers of clothes and armour to act as a barrier between them and the world. This is not because they are loners or unappreciative of company, as many may think (they are, in fact, usually exceedingly grateful for any and all company that they might get), but rather because their curse gets harder and harder to control the more life and magic there is around them. They would consider it to be poor thanks to the Clan or dragon that took them in if they went berserk and forced them into a situation of “kill or be killed”. As such, they embrace solitude despite their yearning for companionship.
