Biography
Before the clan
Like most dragons who hail from the Scarred Wasteland, Khalida was born to survive. Hers was one of the many warring clans of the Abiding Boneyard, recently weakened by the loss of their leader. When a rival clan attacked and tore her ragtag family to pieces, Khali fought with all the ferocity of a cornered beast, despite her youth. In this case, her small size worked to her advantage, and she tore a swath through her enemies, escaping through the Wasteland and never looking back. Having suffered multiple wounds, she stumbled onward for what seemed like an eternity, outrunning the Plague lands until she collapsed from exhaustion. When she came to, she found herself in the Tangled Wood, surrounded by a curious pair of dragons. Recognizing the burning strength in her eyes, they realized she could be a valuable asset, and they escorted her to their home in the tunnels of Shadow. Distrustful of all those around her, none could broach her silent, menacing demeanor... except Semira. There was something about the other Ridgeback's easy humor and brash confidence that helped put Khali at ease, despite her mistrustful nature. Though the other hatchlings didn't much care for her, Semira's approval was enough to make her a part of the group, and subsequently a part of their mischief. She happily followed Semira out of the tunnels and into the night air, growing comfortable enough to smile at the others' jokes. They often spent many nights staring out at the stars together, and though Semira's gaze was always fixed on the horizon, Khali become more and more transfixed with her companion. She began to feel a deep-seeded ache, the result of filling a hole that she hadn't known existed. But before anything could come to fruition, before she could even really grasp what she was feeling, Semira disappeared. Khali's walls were raised once more. She became even more closed-off than she used to be, bitter and impregnable. Though she was a skilled warrior, her presence was felt uncomfortably by the rest of the clan. It wasn't long before tensions came to a head, and she found herself in a fight to the death with another clan member. Victory was Khali's, but there was no way she could stay after slaying another clan member. In truth, she was glad to leave; there had been nothing keeping her there but force of habit. She took to wandering the lands, never staying in one place for too long, a dragon without home or a purpose aside from survival. She never forgot Semira, though she doubted that she would ever find her again. Such dreams were the folly of the foolish and naive. PERSONALITY
Stern; Aloof; Unforgiving
She has always felt like an outsider, and though she is used to living her life in tension, she longs for a sense of security. She usually remains quite poker-faced, and only Semira was ever able to make her smile. It's said that she once tried to make a joke while in Semira's presence, but no one can confirm or deny that rumor. |
