They are always the first to hatch within their clutch and always appear in multi-egg nests. Never has a single-egg nest bore a Harbinger. Lore tells that a Harbinger that hatches from a single-egg nest will be the first sign of the End.

His protective nature and ability to ward off the evil that created nightmares proved most useful in the hatchery where he was born. While there, none of the hatchlings from any nest ever complained of night hags or woke in terror from a frightening dream. While a Sentinel may ward off physical threat, a Bes was the defender of dreams.

While dreaming one night, her mother dreamt that she was visited by a tiny hatchling that resembled her mate. The coloring of the wings was different, though, as well the fact that he appeared to be only a hatchling. When she awoke, she found that one of her eggs was hatching. After several minutes of waiting, out popped a beautiful hatchling...the same one from her dream. At that moment she knew that a Morpheus was born.
