Silmaril was the first one to join the Prophet and the Catalyst on their quest to save and unite all survivors of the great storm, to form the Clan of Hope. He was born in a lesser Lair in the Frigid Floes, but did not reside there for very long. His heart is an adventurous one and his soul thirsts for new experiences. So he set out on a journey. Leaving the frigid Floes behind, he flew north, towards the Starfall Isles, where he was welcomed and allowed to stay, observe, and learn their ways for a while. However, soon his heart began to yearn for a new adventure, and on he went, eastward, further and further until he unwittingly trespassed on the territory of a savage Plague-Clan. When he came across one of their Lairs, he descended to attempt to form new friendships and discover new wonders, as he did on the Starfall Isles - but the Plague Clan were not fond of strangers, and chased him out of their realm mercilessly, and even chased him past their borders and into Dragonhome - they would have hunted him down in their blind rage, had it not been for a group of Earth dragons who heard and responded to Silmaril's distressed cries for help. They chased off the Plague Dragons and took Silmaril under their wings. They cared for him, tended to his wounds, and offered him shelter. As it was the only way of thanks he had to give, Silmaril shared with them his knowledge of all he had learned on his journey. Stories, Poems, Images, he all shared with them, to their greatest enjoyment. Silmaril stayed with the dragon of Dragonhome for a long time, might even have made it his new home- ... But then the storm came. |
Catching Silmaril unaware, it lasted many days and many nights, and carried him - kicked him, rather, and punched him - far away from Dragonhome, up into the clouds, and, finally, into the cold waters of the Sea of Thousand Currents. For days, he drifted, sometimes flying, sometimes paddling, living only from one wave to the next, without hope for rescue, in the middle of the Ocean. Then he sunk. It was dark. Cold. He closed his eyes. When he opened them again, he found he could breathe. The ground beneath him was firm - if still somewhat wet - and pressed close to him lay something.... soft. A seal! A cumulus seal! It had saved Silmaril from certain death, and brought him to the outskirts of the Fishspine Reef. |
|
There, it warmed Silmaril with its fur and brought him fish to eat (which he did not enjoy too much, but hungry and weak as he was he would have eaten anything), until he had quite recovered enough to speak. And he thanked the seal, and shared with him his stories and knowledge, and they quickly became friends. On the third day of Silmaril's recovery, the Prophet and the Catalyst found him, and the seal, and told them of their plan. Silmaril was worried beyond words about his friends from Dragonhome, and thus, naturally, eager to join them on their quest. The seal, Bayou by name, went with them as well, and thus the Clan of Hope found its first members. |
