Nautia - Navigator

Mate of Icarus

Personality:

Nautia is a relatively solitary dragon. She doesn't often socialize with others and vastly prefers her own company to anyone else's. She's very reasonable, and puzzles through life as if approaching a theoretical problem. As such, she can come off as very aloof and cold, though her solutions are always logical. Her real passion, however, lies in navigation. She's a meticulous planner who thinks through every detail no matter how small, with a good head on her shoulders. Maps and charts make more sense to her than other dragons do, to be sure. Her only real friends are Finnian, Cyclopes, and of course, her mate, Icarus. She doesn't socialize much outside of those three dragons and doesn't feel the need to. She's happy as she is.

History:

Nautia was born in the cold. Her parents were not ice dragons, though they'd traveled far to an Ice Clan to call their own. So Nautia was born to high mountains and snow and ice, but most of all the cold. She was lost among the clan's hatchlings often, as she tended to explore before her parents would notice she was gone. They were busy dragons, and sometimes they just didn't realize she wasn't around.

When she was a teenager, she left. She hopped in the back of a trader Snapper's wagon and coasted around for a while with her. The Snapper's name was Sagira, and she was a jovial dragon who took Nautia on as a sort of assistant. Most of the time though, Nautia was in charge of the maps and telling Sagira where they were supposed to go and which clan to take the wares to. She had a real knack for it. Nautia had always had an uncanny sense of direction, and reading the maps was easy to her. Perhaps she would have stayed with Sagira forever, traveling across the lands in the rickety old wagon and enjoying each other's company. But it was not to be.

There was a terrible snowstorm, a blizzard unlike any Nautia had seen before. Their maps were useless, their food was dwindling, and their chances of survival were slim. Nautia was half-frozen and starving when they took shelter in a cave. Sagira saw this, and bravely told Nautia to stay right there and that she would be back soon. With help. And Sagira walked right out into the storm, and she never came back.

Nautia was found several days later after the storm let off a little. Without Sagira there, Nautia had been able to stretch the remaining food so that she wouldn't starve at least. Another coatl found her, and cheerfully introduced himself as Icarus. He was concerned over her state and offered assistance, and Nautia told him simply that she had to find Sagira.

Always a good sport, Icarus agreed readily enough, and the two coatls went out into the land to attempt to find a single snapper. But they didn't find her. They checked in every clan within a weeks journey, but nothing. Heartbroken, Nautia didn't quite know what to do with herself. Fortunately for her, Icarus had developed a soft spot for the odd coatl girl and offered to take her with him. Before their side-tracked mission, he'd been on his way to a small Ice clan just starting off that was looking for new members. A new clan meant a new start, right?

Nautia agreed, and together they went. They came upon the clan and entreated the leader, Castemere, to allow them to stay. Graciously, he allowed them both in.

Soon enough, Icarus's soft-spot developed into full blown affection, and he asked Nautia if she would be his. She's developed quite the soft-spot in return for the coatl who'd put his journey on pause to help out a distraught stranger, so she agreed. She still doesn't socialize much - she really isn't over the heartbreak of losing Sagira even now - but she has all she needs in her friends, and most of all, in Icarus.
