Biography
Anais ❧ Clan Leader
Gallery
The passing of seasons meant little in the dusty caverns and crevices of the canyon that housed Scatterspark Outpost, but Anais had seen her fair share of bitter winters and weathered plenty of bone-dry summers. Scatterspark -- Jubilee Junction was the latest name the council had proposed for the settlement; the jury was still out on whether the name would be formally adopted, but regardless, it would always be Scatterspark to her -- had been her home nearly as long as she could remember, and what she could remember of what came before Scatterspark hardly mattered; after all, they’d left her for dead when the harpies had come. When she was younger and had the time to spare to think about such things, she wondered if perhaps her old clan leaving her for dead had been the right thing to do; after all, part of her had died on that lonely cliffside that day -- the soft part of her, the part that wasn’t strong or brave or hard enough to survive the treacherous wastes of the Shifting Expanse. But she was older now, stronger -- and perhaps wiser, too, but Adam often said she was just too stubborn for her own good. At any rate, none of that mattered now. Her old clan may have left her for dead, but they were just as dead to her. She had long since left whatever faint memories of them she still had where they belonged -- in the past. She had a new clan now -- a new family, one that she would fight tooth and nail to defend until the bitter end with Adam beside her. No one in her new family would ever be left for dead as long as she drew breath. They would be strong. They would be safe. As the seasons passed and her new flight continued to grow, she did everything in her power to ensure her new clan was as rugged as the harsh terrain of the Carrion Canyon. There was no coddling in Scatterspark Outpost on her watch, no time for soft words; hatchlings grew up quickly and learned to survive, but soon the little clan Anais and Adam called their own was doing more than just scraping a living from the rocks and dry earth, scavenging what they could from forgotten relics of the past; they were thriving. Anais was proud of what they’d built; she would never admit it to anyone except Adam -- signs of affection were never something she was very good at, and though she loved her clan in her own way, she ran a tight ship and believed everything she and her clan did should have purpose to it; she had little patience for small-talk and interminable council meetings, preferring to take action to protect the ones she cared about rather than waste time with awkward words. |
