 Matriarch

Orphaned like so many others in the early years after the Beastclans grew bolder, she took to pickpocketing early on in the crowded markets of Churnscar Wharf. After choosing the wrong target and finding herself in the sights of a very unhappy merchant, she found a position on a ship in exchange for passage to the Trading Post. The next few years were spent wandering Sornieth, working odd jobs. Eventually, she made a name for herself in the smuggling business and returned to the Sea of a Thousand Currents, selling black market goods out of the Tsunami Flats with a handful of associates. One of her best associates was her future husband, Durion. She had contracted him to deliver specific components from the Shifting Expanse, and he decided to stay after the job was done. After a number of years, they mutually realized that they trusted each other above all else. Becoming the accidental Matriarch of a tiny clan was another surprise, but a happy one. Managing a clan is not something even the wisest and most intelligent of dragons can undertake as a purely solitary duty, especially not when the clan doubles as an underground black market. Slowly, Taeria gathered dragons who became more than associates to her: Mitori, a runaway novitiate; Kat, a formidable warrior with a rather sketchy past; and Nahnie, a jack-of-all-trades who reminded Taeria of herself and would eventually become her adopted daughter. Their eldest children, the twins Aeri and Auriel, were hatched a few years after the clan settled in Tsunami Flats and right after the family officially adopted Nahnie. Despite their initial reputation for black-market activities, Taeria realized that she had been drawing away from her illegal activities for some time now. Their move to Fishspine Reef was a chance to start over and focus on what they had made. It was certainly a difficult transition. Durion handled the rambunctious hatchlings while Taeria led the journey, forging through cross-currents and territorial clans. Taeria saw to it that they settled in the side of Leviathan Trench, in the dark and apart from those who would stumble upon them by accident. Three more hatchlings came along: Duressi, named for Durion's late father and possessing none of Duressi Senior's tact, Kloia, who has somehow managed to reconcile the traits of being fastidious and excellently diplomatic, and Ateyu, resident wild child. |
