Thuriel was originally born Leiruht, son of Esequiel and Veronica, the rulers of a major clan in the Ashfall Waste. From an early age, Leiruht was groomed to be the next leader of the clan, no distractions. When Leiruht met a beautiful Spiral female, Irec, he was prepared to run away with her. When Esequiel found out, he executed Irec before Leiruht's eyes. That was the final straw, as far as Leiruht was concerned. He disowned his family and changed his name to Thuriel before running away.


The newly named Thuriel ran to the Viridian Labyrinth, using his extraordinary gymnastic abilities to earn himself work as an assassin. His specialty was to wrap his coils around a target's neck suddenly, strangling them. Thuriel never liked killing people for a living, so he left the Viridian Labyrinth, traveling across Sornieth. He worked odd jobs until he reached the Sea of a Thousand Currents. There he joined the Anaey Clan and developed a romantic relationship with a Wind Flight spiral, Ceri.
