Naida is the adopted daughter of a former egg thief and murderer. Though she is aware her father, Canicus, has done horrendous things, she chooses to still work with him to improve his life and help him atone for his crimes. During her time as gardener, she would take him through the greenhouses and just...talk to him. Canicus is mandatorily bound so he doesn't re-offend. The guardians and peacekeepers gave her a special rune to allow her to control his movements, should he try to escape. Time passed as her father got better, though he remained antisocial and bitter. Naida knew she'd need help if she were to fully rehabilitate him. Though the Candleborne Covenent is secretive on a good day, she sought out her friend Riddle to add them to the roster of members. When Naida underwent her ceremony, she had a vision... Echoing chimes filled her ears as she opened her eyes to see nothing but a blinding light. Below, scored into the soil with claws and filled with blood, was an eerie message. B̸e̴w̸a̸r̷e̶ ̶y̵o̷u̴r̶ ̴o̸w̶n̵ ̴b̴l̴o̷o̸d̷.̵ Time passed and soon enough, Canicus was accepted into the Covenent under the watchful eye of the peacekeepers. Naida became a full priestess, wary because of her vision. She still wonders...but perhaps she'll never know what it means until the moment something happens.

INTO THE PRISON...
"There's just a voice within me saying I should be worried. That it wasn't a normal dream." Naida sat stiffly, her hands clasped in her lap as she sat in the pew. Her golden and brown streaked hair was tied up in a high bun, hidden mostly behind shimmering drapes and ornaments. As per the rules of the Covenent, her eyes were shielded from the world by a dark veil. The crackle of the bonfire in the middle of the cathedral was of little comfort; It almost sounded like bones snapping. Her former mentor and their leader, Casey, sighed as she leaned against the bench in front of her. Her father's pearl hung around her neck, catching a bit of the light from the fire and the candles strewn among the shelves and sconces, and beacons that hung from the ceiling. She looked ragged, worn. Exhausted from her duties. Naida felt a pang of guilt. She could have been resting, rather than listening to her problems. Casey shook her head. "I don't think it was a dream. But I'm not sure if you should be worried about Canicus. The vision you saw described 'your blood'...You and he are not related." She reminded her gently. "And who knows where your parents are? They would have no way of hurting you, let alone knowing where you live now." She smiled vaguely down at her, frosted green eyes distracted. "I wouldn't have been sent a vision if I didn't have to watch my back." Naida murmured, a hint of frustration in her voice. "I know." The Exalted Priest rubbed her eyes, frowning deep. "We'll figure this out. I'll consult the other priests without using your name. They'll likely have some other ideas." "Thank you." Even talking to her old teacher didn't soothe her mind. But knowing she would try to help her was a step forward at the very least. Her feet brought her to Frostchain Prison, the cold of the glacier seeping into her skin. Naida huffed as she said a quick prayer and her body began to glow a soft yellow and red, warming her up. The guards eyed her with curiosity, but otherwise let her be. She murmured a soft greeting to William, one of the older prisoners, as she passed his cell. He nodded from his spot in the corner, reading a novel, shackles clinking around his neck. The Covenent didn't believe that people were bad forever. The prison was a temporary place, rather, but only if the prisoner genuinely wanted to change. Perhaps that's why Naida refused to be rude to any of the prisoners...even Gerard. "Aye, little light...come here and give me a kiss. I promise I won't bite." The tall, red-eyed man cooed from his darkened cell. He was bound far more than the other prisoners, his ankles chained and his arms contained in a strait jacket. Naida glared at him. No, she wouldn't be rude. But she wouldn't be friendly either. It wasn't her job to save all the prisoners. Just one. "Dad...?" Canicus looked up from his place under his sheets. He had evidently been napping. A ghost of a smile crossed his lips and Naida returned it, her warming spell spreading to him. At a single touch to the cell door, it swung open and allowed her in before closing behind her. "You look cold." Canicus chuckled. "You aren't funny." |
