Haestrom

Life's just boring without variety and the other Flights need to learn to loosen up and have a little fun, Haestrom will say if ever asked why he left his original clan in Shadowbinder's lands. Is it true? Yes, no, and everything in between. Much like Haestrom himself, who is every bit a Shadow-clan trickster with a chaotic edge of "it's not cheating if you don't catch me doing it".

He ended up in the Shifting Expanse more or less by accident, first getting lost in his wanderings and then getting waylaid by a ferocious storm somewhere in the Carrion Canyon. He was rescued by a chocolate-scaled Guardian who introduced himself as Vigilance. Vigilance seemed to Haestrom a gentle giant, fully capable of causing some real damage but much preferring to protect and nurture. He also seemed painfully rule-abiding, which prompted Haestrom to pull out all the stops in his chaotic personality to playfully torment his savior while they were trapped together.

Annoyed, the originally Wind-clan Guardian still invited the lost Tundra back to his home. Haestrom took the larger dragon up on his offer, and joined the eccentrically jumbled clan of Stormrush, a Fae architect entirely too sweet-natured to be native Lightning-clan.

Something about Vigilance's gentle nature but contrasting rigid adherence to rules and laws ruffled Haestrom's mane in all the right ways, and he's since made it his mission in life to get the Guardian to loosen up. Cut loose. Have a little fun.

Perhaps he's been a bit too successful, because Vigilance and Haestrom are not simply friends and clan-mates, but now also lovers who raise the clan's young more or less together. They'll never have any of their own, but their clan-mates do, and Vigilance nurtures the hatchlings while Haestrom makes them laugh. When the hatchlings grow, Vigilance teaches them how to defend themselves in combat and Haestrom imparts knowledge of cunning and magic, and it's more than a little like having their own hatchlings anyway.

Aside from his duties as hatchling-minder, Haestrom is the brilliant mind behind the clan's finances. He has an unusually acute mind, for a Tundra, sharp as a razor and tenacious as a steel trap, and nothing slips by his notice. Except, perhaps, when his clan-mates sneak treasure out to make frivolous purchases while Haestrom is otherwise distracted, usually by distracting Vigilance.

If Haestrom's word was law, Fulgurite would be a financially solvent clan, but alas, he is the one thrifty dragon in a clan of spendthrifts, and treasure often leaks away like morning mist despite his best efforts. One of these days, he's going to find a blacksmith who can forge a better lock, and then he's going to put a door in the hoard caverns to keep his clan-mates out. One day. When they stop spending so that he can afford it.
