Taiiya

Basilisk feather fans are not something to be meddled with. Taiiya learned this the hard way. You’d be shocked to learn that she’s one of the older members of the clan, based on her youthful appearance. However, she’d always been fond of feathers. Taiiya was a blessed birth- a Coatl born to a Skydancer and an Imperial. Her father was an adamant worshiper of the Flamecaller, and she found it fit to bless him with one of her own children. However, Taiiya’s colors and feathers are dull, compared to many other Coatls. Her browns were always far too dull for the other, many colored Coatls she knew. And she found only one way past the bad luck she’d been born with- other feathers.

Basilisk feather fans seemed to do the trick, and she decked herself out in the bright red feathers, despite the warnings from others of the dangers they pose, spending hours collecting discarded ones from coliseum parties. At first, she’d just assumed it was weight loss from stress, and she began to eat more fish when she first noticed herself getting ever so slightly smaller. But as it progressed, she found herself helpless to stop it. She shed her feathers and found herself almost completely unable to stand the sneers and teasing she now endured- both from her use of the feather fans and her dull colors, she simply flew away.

As she flew and flew, she saw, out of the corner of her eye, a set of other, small sized dragons being fed fish and other items by a large guardian, surrounded by birds. She snuck in, hoping to disguise herself among the hatchlings and get some food, but Aero recognized her as new immediately and began to ask her questions- was she okay, how old she was, if she had somewhere to stay, and etc. When she confessed that she was a runt, she was surprised to see Aero not sneer at her, but to smile. She was introduced to Jazzwaxed and Eroico and all the other runts and otherwise forever small dragons in the clan, and for once, Taiiya felt accepted. An out of place and dull Coatl no longer, she has found a place where she belongs.

Taiiya’s desperate feather fan decoration made her learn many things. She figured out how to sew from it, how to put things together, and what goes where. While she’s too small to wear most clothing herself at this point, she’s a talented seamstress and is good with both colors and shapes. She made much of the clothing for different members of the clan, and even made Aero’s shirt as a gift for the Guardian who welcomed her into the clan. Because of her feathers not being naturally colorful, she has an amazing sense of color, too, and helps to coordinate how to look appropriate in meetings with other clans so as not to offend.

But though she loved Clan Moon Mist, Taiiya eventually grew to want to see the world outside of it. Perhaps she was surrounded by her small peers here, but being a seamstress for only one clan meant that she eventually saturated the clan with clothing and only did repairs on that she'd already made. She wanted to see other places, meet other dragons, and stitch more clothes- even if it was a risky business, venturing out as she was. How could she let her past mistakes hold her back, when there was a whole world to see? And so one day, she joined a group of traveling merchants, and left her old clan with a fond goodbye, intending to stop in any clan that would accept her that was also located in a new, exciting region. (She took Artemis, her grasslands trunker, too, though!)

After traveling through the Starfall Isles, the merchants took a boat to Dragonhome, and for many months, the group trekked through the dry desert, facing danger, boredom, and more than one group of clans uninterested in taking a baby-sized Coatl who stitched fabric, feeling that she would be more burden than boon. But this long ordeal eventually ended, and the caravan reached the Viridian Labyrinth. To a dragon so interested in color and yet from the Southern Icefields originally, the vivid flowers, the bright animals, and the vital greens everywhere were amazingly beautiful. The clans here seemed gentler, kinder, though some were frighteningly savage and did not even let the merchants near their territory. Despite this, Taiiya stayed with the caravan for a time- no clan was quite right. Until she came upon this one.

When she met the founder, Aegea, and saw the clan and all the unusual dragons dwelling within it, Taiiya knew this was the place for her, even if there was no other permanently-young dragons such as her. Everything was beautiful, the clan as a whole was quite accepting, Artemis quite liked it, and Aegea kindly offered to help her raise funds to change her appearance, if she wanted, once the co-leader heard her story. Taiiya was astonished at this kindness and gratefully accepted, deciding she would stay. She bid the caravan goodbye, thanking them for taking her so far, and settled in- the clan kept its promise, and helped make her more beautiful than she'd ever dreamt of being (though she remained dull in comparison to her peers in her youth). And here, she has found a new home; she has made many friends, and she is only too happy to sew clothes for the many and varied dragons of this clan.
