Biography

Io
Normal Dragon. Totally not an alien.
Deeprealm Runestone
Iron Gear
Kunzite
Faded Canvas Scrap

Dragons call him Io - eye-oh, short and sweet - but you're not sure what to make of that (especially since they always hesitate before saying it).

His eyes aren't eyes, really. They glow, like gateways or lost stars. His movement is more graceful than it should be, and the markings across his body shift and pulsate to a heartbeat that isn't draconian. Strangely enough, part of him seems to be metal, as if he's some sort of cyborg.

«GREETINGS.»

Are you hearing the voice aloud or in your mind? It resonates on a strange frequency...

«I AM %#ì̡͍̘̱̘̹̫̑ͩͫ͌ͨ͞n̛̼̫̝̭̓ͥ͌ͩ̽̕p̷͍̥̦̠̤̎̔ų͙͆ͣ̇̑̃̓͐́͘t͈̜̗͌̏̆͟ͅ/̮͖̘͇̬͗͑̌͐͛̚̕͢ǫ͙̘̼͉͙͎̜͖ͨ̂͐͐̓͜u̷͖̺̲̩̱̖̤͖ͨ̔͠t̪̦͂̔̌̉̕͝p̨̠̎̎͌̏̀̚ͅu̙̙̙̟ͭ̒͞t̖ͣ̈́͆̑̇ͮ̒͟ ̳̺̮̂̐ͫ̄ͤ̚ȇ̐̒̃ͫ͢҉̫̲͉̳͇͓r̴͖̳̦͖̺̰ͤ̌̔̏̈̚͜͞r̴̼̺̫͙̱̝̯̜ͣ͊̎̌͒ͧ̅ǒ̡͓͖̹̬̓̑ͮͭ͊̃ͤr͗͂̕͏̳̘̱̞. You're still curious, but you feel compelled to move on anyway.

. . .

Why did you come here, again?

Io is the first creation, the prototype, the first offspring of his "parents." It would be more accurate to call him an experiment than an offspring; his "father," OKZKO, is not of this world and is on Sornieth (or SX-42, as he calls it) to study the local sentient lifeforms, dragons. In an effort to expand his areas of study and make his research more efficient, OKZKO first created Xholoatl, a sentient automaton, to aid his research.

However, the Pearlcatcher-automaton was flawed; she required an external power source and was quite obviously not draconic. Next, OKZKO took a sample of his own DNA and grew it into an embryo, but without another of his kind, it was not viable and did not survive. Finally, inspired by Xholoatl, who was a loyal assistant despite her flaws, he grew another embryo and combined it with the same technology the Pearlcatcher-automaton was created from; this experiment was successful, and resulted in Io.

As a prototype, Io has his own flaws; his speech processor shifts and wavers, sometimes garbling the translation of his words from OKZKO's native language to Draconic, resulting in mentally painful bursts of static-like noise every now and then. In addition, despite being able to pass as a dragon for the most part, there are parts of him that are visibly made of machinery, which even mental manipulation cannot make other dragons forget. Nevertheless, Io was largely successful, and later versions (his "siblings") improved greatly on his model, perfecting their voice modulators and adding matter manipulation fields, allowing them to "phase" through nonliving matter.

Many of Io's "siblings" have either left SX-42 for other areas of study or have deactivated, but the prototype remains active and continues his "father's" work. Despite his flaws, Io was able to produce viable "children" of his own, and has even settled into a Nature clan to study the numerous forms of life native to the Viridian Labyrinth- and the many unusual dragons that have gathered together into a clan deep within it. If one didn't know better, one might even go so far as to say he's grown fond of the clan, but then surely the "child" of an alien and an automaton can't feel any emotion at all... right?
