  Mananagi was once a hatchling of a small fire clan that found itself conquered by the roving Horde of Lady Katja. She knows not what became of that clan, nor who she was before she was given a gladiator's name, but considering its weakness and Katja's methods, she decided long ago it's best not to dwell- or care. Mananagi was the eldest of Katja's pit fighting champions in her day; a hard-won title. Her success is reflected in her demeanor; at her best she’s rigidly poised and ready to strike, and at her worst she’s an unstoppable force of destruction.

After Katja's death, Mananagi urged her mate, Rook, to flee the desert before his political enemies tried to assassinate him as well. He took her advice, and the two fled south, followed by a gaggle of their clansmates drawn to Rook and Mananagi's authority in a time of turmoil.

Now, the desert exiles live among the clan of the Winter Sun in the southern icefields. Most of the former horde has settled comfortably into their new home, but Mana remains suspicious, unsettled by the ferocity of the magic that dwells there. Perhaps, as her clansmates assure her, all will be well- but she has not gotten as far as she has by being unprepared.
